With three episodes of about 35 minute each, this min series was a pleasant watch about high school teenage love. It has all the trappings of teen romance, the school boys in shorts (lol), some good music and good looking actors. Sadly, this show doesn't end on a happy note despite love being in the air, but guess what, in my opinion, that's actually most true in most cases. This is story of love and longing and never being able to express your true feelings.
Best is an ordinary student who gets hurt by a basketball in the school one day. The vide of him being carried to the school infirmary by Dew (the guy who hit him) starts circulating in the school. This angers Best and he confronts Dew in anger but Dew gives a heartfelt apology. Using. This opportunity Dew forwards a hand of friendship, but Best starts to have some feelings for Dew, which cannot remain hidden by two of Best's friends who constantly encourage and tease him to confess his love like true shippers. In contrast, Best thinks it will be better to write a song for Dew, despite the fact that every time he sees Dew with his girl best friend, he gets demotivated. Listening to him practice, Best is invited to join a singing band, which happens to have Dew's friends. Also Best had been writing a lot of his feelings about Dew in a journal which one days goes in hand of Dew. After being in the band and singing, Best suddenly becomes very popular and his friendship with Dew only strengthens. This is when the girl realizes that maybe Dew and Best have something more for each other than just friends and she informs Dew's mother. A very upset mother, forces Dew to move to another city with his father for studies. When Best finds out about this, he still doesn't have the heart to confess his true feelings to Dew, but instead says his goodbye and cries his heart out. It's only towards the end, we find out that Dew always knew about Best's feelings for him and in fact it was because of him Best got into the band. Sadly, the show ends up with both leads being sad and crying for not being able to confess their true feelings for one another.
This series is no ground breaking and focuses on being just a. Simple and sweet teenage love story. It captures the innocence of first love, including all the bashful glances, the playful teasing from your friends, and the butterflies in your stomach when you encounter the boy you like. One of my favorite thing about the show was Best's friends. They were exactly the kind of supportive friends who are there for best at every step of the way encouraging him but also teasing him. I loved that dynamic between this trio. I also enjoyed the coy shy dances that Best would give to Dew and the slight smile that would come on his face depicting the probability of falling in love. Th beautiful love story takes an unnecessary turn by showing the evil side of the wanna be girlfriend. Firstly she had no business going and telling Dew's mother that she thinks Dew and Best are together and then the mother going to the extreme measures of making sure Dew doesn't see Best ever again. The last minute drama could have been avoided. I don't mind the unhappy ending, but the road it takes to culminate it there was the problem. The two boys didn't even get to confess their feelings for one another and that, to me, hurt. Thankfully the two boys have good chemistry and do the job well of what's expected of them. The show may not be memorable in the long run, and surely the storyline is pretty basic, but, it’s certainly decent enough to watch once for a cute, sensitive and wholesome high school romance. Those 14 episode long Thai series really test my patience and I always hope some day some fan will make an edited version of all those shows, moving all the unnecessary fluff. :)
I have a small recommendation for a short (6x25min) thai BL : On cloud nine. It's quite unique in the way it is told (confusing and you have to pay attention to details but makes beautiful sense in the end) and filmed (some would call it beautiful others artsy and pretentious). It will definitely not be everyone cup of tea but it managed to captivate and deeply move me.
