Ghost Host, Ghost House (Thai Series)

Despite the series being full of plot holes, situations that don'e make sense or even a patchy narrative, this show actually manages to hold the audience attention. Once you stop taking the show seriously, the silly yet sweet shenanigans of the leads and the family that they stay with is actually enjoyable. The leads involve in some flirty exchanges, some passionate kissing ( I wish there was more of it, for a change, the physical intimacy was not awkward). At 8 episodes of about 45  minutes each, the show could have ended in 6, but hey, lets continue to hope. At least this was not stretched to the usual 12 or 14 parts. I will take small victories.

Kevin likes to host online live sessions researching and telling ghost stories. He has grown up in US. He is now on a trip to Thailand to met his relatives and stay with them which includes his uncle, aunt and 2 kids. They are all very welcoming of Kevin and do everything to make him comfortable. Because of his interest in ghosts, he likes to wander alone at night in the neighboring abandoned buildings. Kevin's relatives don't understand his hobby and feel worried about his safety. We then meet Pluem, a contractor and errand boy who works for the uncle and aunt and many other jobs. After a few awkward conversations, we see that clearly there is an attraction between the two boys. To save cab fares, Kevin offers Pluem job as his scooter driver and before you know they are engaged in a passionate sexual affair. But unknown to Kevin, his relatives are actually ghosts. They dies few weeks ago in a car accident and haven't moved on to afterlife. Once he finds the truth, he along with Pluem work together to make sure that they safely move on to afterlife while continuing their romance. As always, there are some misunderstandings but nothing serious. By episode 6 the relatives have moved on and focus is on the leads. Pluem confesses his love to Kevin but he says he needs time (he used to have a very close friend, whom he dearly loved and who died, which led to this ghost interest in Kevin). In fact Kevin just ghosts Pluem and goes back to US, but neither of them forget one another and through his continuous live streams, Kevin continues to put his heart out about his love. Three years later, he visits Thailand again and goes to his uncle's house. To his surprise Pluem now live there because he has many happy memories, is now a famous actor and has been patiently waiting for Kevin. The duo reunite in a happy ending.

The one good thing in this show is that it tries hard to avoid the cliched BL tropes like accidental kissing and all. When the couple have their first sexual encounter, it I just that. A sexual encounter because they both find each other attractive and want to do it (which is how it normally is). So, while the makers succeed in the department, they still lack any sense of pacing or dramatic plotting. There really isn't much point to the premise as it doesn't really factor much into the story and has nothing to do with the ultimate resolution. There is a mystery at the beginning that could have been drawn out and made more terrifying, but instead the audience is let in almost immediately and it's played mostly for laughs. Despite all of that, this imperfect series is oddly endearing and displays inexplicable charm. Kevin and Pluem make an adorable couple with an engaging romance. Their flirting felt modest and more real than many other shows I have seen and I think this will be the USP of this show. Many scenes showcase their comfortable chemistry, physical attraction, and emotional intimacy. The BL content is highly persuasive, mixing sweetness and sexiness in the right amounts. They are not the best actors for sure, which get evident in emotional scenes, but since they look good together and actually share more than a few passionate kisses, the show gets an extra point from me.

There are missed opportunities in the clumsily told story, not fulfilling the potential of its clever premise. The scenes involving the family of relatives were all good fun. The brother-sister banter felt real. The entire family was cohesive and is fully believable as one. There are a few supernatural elements and scare scenes but nothing that can scare you off majorly. A show that could have been about grief and loss, but thanks to a muddled writing ( I know I have said this a few times already) the show fails to rise above average. Nonetheless, Ghost Host, Ghost House is still a charming BL drama with casual moments of fun. I surprisingly enjoyed it more than I care to admit. (6/10)

A nice little BL, with some very good moments and soome really bad ones. Can't say it better than you did : "this imperfect series is oddly endearing and displays inexplicable charm"
The beginning was all over the place and had me fear for the rest. But slowly I got attached to characters and the story. Kevin and Pluem are adorable (and radiate something sexy too). So his the family. Honestly their last moments was something beautifully done and had my heart sway.
I also had a tiny personal pleasure on how they pronounce my name (Kevin). It was so cute!!

Can I recommend another japanese fantastic (both literally and figurativelly) show: Eternal Yesterday (Eien no Kinou). It has the weirdest base plot but has all the right feels at the right place.

The Shortest Distance is Round 3: Fallen Flowers

Continuing with the weird trilogy of "The Shortest Distance", I am so glad that finally I am done with part 3 and won't have to deal with this again in future. Thankfully, as of now the makers have not announced any further parts; which will save all of us on this earth from the embarrassment of watching this in near future. After the first 10 minutes are used in sort of recapping bits of first two parts, the story moves forward. Haruto is now starting to have feelings for Ruka, the mysterious pole dancer from second part. In a fit of rage, Ruka ends up killing the goat man and to save him and Haruto, Shibahara asks them to go underground. Meanwhile Shibahara continues the search for Seiya (the guy who had cut off Haruto's penis). It turns out Seiya is now also taking care of the original club owner from part 1. Both of them were released after they had informed Shibahara of Aoyama's secret location. Shibahara tortures Seiya's boyfriend leading to Seiya killin

One Summer Night (Korean)

I really wanted to like this film but for non native speakers, these movie leaves a lot to be understood and the way scenes were unfolding in front of me, I wasn't sure many times what was really going on. The story had potential button getting any back story on any of the characters limited my ability to empathize with any of these actors. Film starts with two North Korea military guys Yong Joon and Jae Sung having sex and they are caught red handed and they run. Three years later we see Yong Joon in Seoul leading a very mundane and poor life. He has a boyfriend Tae-Kyu, who is a weird guy. He is carefree, doesn't do any work and is completely emotional and financially dependent on Young Joon. In fact, even Yong Joon will go to any lengths to protect him , fend for him and taking care of him to the extent of even taking up prostitution. Suddenly one day Jae Sung appears in their life again. His motivation is not clear but it is obvious he wants Yong Joon back in his life, who

Ultimate masturbation: Shigoki no yama (Japanese) [The Ultimate Masturbation]

I would never know what was the point behind making this film. Was it supposed to be a comedy, cos it wasn't. It wasn't even porn. It was just a silly attempt at making something absolutely senseless and ridiculous. The story, as well as direction is equally shoddy. You could laugh for having seen something so bad, but I wouldn't call that comedy. An old man runs a camp about gay masturbation. The explanation given is that gays masturbate for pleasure unlike straight men, for whom the act is seen as shame or because they can't find a woman. One day a straight man shows up and wants to join the camp for his thesis. After discussion, he is allowed in. Rules include that you can masturbate together, you can masturbate one another, but there is no fellatio or anal sex. Some students of course breaks rule. The teacher then talks about 2 forms of masturbation which gives ultimate pleasure. He shows one without touching and then refuses to talk of the other. Somehow suddenly,
