This is apparently first of the three films so far in the "Shortest Distance" series. I really don't know as of now whether this is supposed to follow a certain story or pattern or general theme. I guess we will find out. Surprisingly for a Japanese film, this has way too many kissing scenes and explicit sex scenes (of course, without showing you the genitalia) and I was quite shocked by whole of it. Despite that, its definitely not a pornographic film.
Haruto is a lonely student without any friends. The new school teacher Aoyama take liking for me and they sort of become unsaid friends. One day when Haruto is sick, Aoyama kisses him shocking Haruto. He complains of sexual harassment and the teacher is expelled. Three years later, Haruto is now Yuki and is a prostitute. He gets into huge debt with his owner and runs away. He meets Aoyama , who is now homeless, who helps him with some money to pay off his debt. But since the money is not enough, Yuki's owner introduces him to another guy who has a huge list of rich gay clients. The older guys gets Yuki into being a gay prostitute and soon enough, he becomes very popular with his clients, leaving another guy very jealous of Yuki's success. To take revenge on him, this guy bites off Yuki's dick so that he cannot continue in this business. The new club owner feels bad for him and gives him a lot of money for his living expenses and gives him address of his financial manager in case he needs help. When the owner suddenly disappears, Yuki/Haruto visit the financial manager, who turns out to be Aoyama. Aoyama tells the secret of all the life journey to Haruto/Yuki and why and how he did all this to win Haruto's love.
There is definitely a story here and it feels that the makers were going for a shock value and a dark theme here. The sex scenes are way too much and too explicit and some of them can be edited. They are not exciting, in fact they are violent-ish. The actors did a good job and I believe actor playing Haruto is a known porn star in Japan. The ending is the most shocking. I mean there are much better easier ways. To win someone's love. This felt more of doing torture to someone. I really doubt anyone acts that way, and for Haruto to forgive Aoyama's actions and be ok with it is even more disturbing. This is not an entertaining or a sweet watch and can get boring with sex scenes. If you are ok with shock value, disturbing storyline, crazy sinister people, go for it. The title comes from the fact that the two lovers eventually meet in a round about fashion after all these incidents and not straight forward, and so they will be together for a long time. Yeah, I am as confused as you are reading this. I would only recommend this with huge reservations. (4/10)
