Touted as a wild ride thorough the world of Hollywood decadence as seen through the eyes of pumped-up, cross-dressing Tinseltown reject Beverly Johnson; this film was so bad that I can't even begin to start writing. Full of cringe, over the top everything, this is a good example of cringe with a paper thin plot that doesn't offer much, some good eye candy and weird Hollywood impersonators to add so called comedy to the whole film. It was bad on all accounts.
Beverly Jackson, a buff, masculine guy in obviously absurd drag is a wannabe actor who is denied a role in an upcoming musical at the Pride Playhouse: this sets off the idea of revenge that is supposed to be the main line of the plot. But we have a few other side stories that take majority of the plot. There is a young gay man Shane who works at the theatre who gets dumped by his boyfriend for a hotter guy. He is also doing auditions for a lot of wannabe's who can pretend to be Hollywood impersonators for Shane and Beverly to take on tours. Shane is cute, boy next door, out of luck guy, who eventually meets a caring young handsome man and a future looks forward for him. But somewhere Beverly gets the wannabe actors together to come up with a lot to take a revenge. Truth to be told, I am not even sure what his actual plan was to take revenge but in this camp comedy, I don't think that was the point at all.
The guy playing Beverly is so over the top that it very quickly goes from entertaining to exasperating. There’s simply too much of him. Even with the different outfits, it’s easy to become tired of him quickly. The Hollywood impersonators are headache inducing. The only redeeming thing about the film is cute Shane and him trying to get back on his feet and do something with his life. The film features repulsive characters, illogical plot and poor production values. Nothing that happens in this film makes much sense and the characters are mostly repulsive idiots who give the LGBT community a bad name. The cast knocks itself out trying, but the material is so silly and idiotic, it is all in vain. This film is completely avoidable, and not because it has aged poor. I cant imagine anyone liking t he film even when it came out. (2/10)
