Gay Short Films : 98

The Deaf Boy's Disease (USA)
Ant starts to wonder about his sexuality when he meets deaf teenager Early. His friend Tremor picks up on Ant’s interest and begins to tease him, leading to some very awkward but revealing conversations. The direction is very artsy , but a lot of random cuts makes it very hard to focus on the short as a whole.

The Space Between Us (USA)
An old man and a young 17 year old teenager have a chance encounter. The boy is running form home and the older guys brings him to his motel It is a coming-of-age short about a chance encounter between two strangers that results in an intimate conversation about love, life, desire, and secret. This actually had the potential to be an endearing short film, but it turned out to be yet another formulaic, self-indulgent gay creepy old man's fantasy.

The Last Kiss (USA)
This film and the above two complete the 'Desire Trilogy' by filmmaker Ohm Phanphiroj. The two boys from the first film reprise their roles. Ant and Tremor meet up in a hotel lobby in downtown Chicago. Tremor is moving to Florida tomorrow, so this is the last chance they have to express their feelings for each other.

Father Ray Comes Out (UK)
Father Ray, a parish vicar in South London, is approaching 60 but he's decided he doesn't want to die living a lie. He is gay and for him, it is time to be honest with himself, and to tell his congregation. This short film follows Father Ray in the lead up to the most climactic sermon of his life - that attacks bullying, homophobia and where in no uncertain terms he declares he is a homosexual. The film observes the reactions that follow and the thoughts of Father Ray who realizes there is now 'no turning back'.

Discretion (USA)
Derek is a beloved English professor at the local university and is married to a successful financier husband, with whom he raises a 4-year old daughter. However, Derek's all-American family is compromised when he develops feelings for Trysten, a smart and handsome new student. Derek realizes the picture-perfect life he's always wanted may be in jeopardy as he confronts serious questions about family and monogamy. God! The lead actor was sooo bad.

Ei blot til lyst (Denmark) [All Work No Play]
Marc is exposed to a hate crime. It embarks a personal journey where he dives into toxic masculinity and its consequences. He creates an intimate space with a group of men who together cultivate vulnerability and eroticism as an antidote. Full on sex scenes and erect dicks. More of an artsy film for my tastes, but at least all th guys were quite good looking and hot.

Fruitcake (USA)
Two sisters arrive at their parents’ home for Christmas with boyfriends in tow. When the family leaves for a last minute trip to the mall, the two boys are left to mind the turkey. Before they realize, the two men are both all over each other, hooking up, kissing and making merry. What ensues will surely become a memorable holiday for all. Although a bit dated and perhaps not the greatest production values, there is plenty of quirky charm and flirting to bring plenty of laughs.

No Ordinary Joe (UK)
For football mad Matt mixes his love of the beautiful game, with his love of the works of Joe Orton and a sexual orientation that is all but obvious, even if his family and best friend Gary are seemingly unaware of Matt's sexual proclivity. Only could words of advice from an ordinary or perhaps not so ordinary Joe, finally prompt Matt to get up close and personal with that hunk of a football substitute that he's been lusting after, before both the game and the short come to an end?

Investigaytion (USA)
Concerned parents hire a private detective to tail their son because they think he might be gay.

George's Date (South Africa)
A animation short film showing particularly malleable young white man gets ready for his romantic evening with a black guy.

Spokes (USA)
A gay German tourist meets a man in New York City’s central park and takes home a souvenir.

Blowjob (USA)
Andy Warhol directs a single 27-minute shot of a man's face to capture his facial expressions as he receives the sexual act depicted in the title. The facial expressions have to be seen to be believed.

Kiss (USA)
One of Warhol's first films. Closeups of various couples (men & women, women & women, men & men) kissing for about 3 minutes each.

Midnights With Adam (USA)
Harper who recently came out gay, is at a friends party where he is struggling to hold back his feelings for his straight friend, Danny. He confesses his feelings and acts in a way that Danny owes him his love (?) As midnight approaches, Harper exploits himself in a brief sexual encounter to mitigate his loneliness and disconnection only to realize that he must come to terms with his identity. OK film but the critical incident of what happened in the restaurant is not told to us and its hard to empathize for Harper in this case, just because he expects that his straight friend should like him back.

Nu (Denmark) [Now]
This is a silent short film shot in black and white. An old man in a hospital bed has a visit from another man, who kisses him on the mouth. We are taken back to a scene of a young man and woman in their wedding attire. They have sex, and soon we see them having a baby. But the young man also has encounters with another man, and the woman in her desperation commits a heinous act. At the end of the film, the woman comes to visit the old man.

Consentement (France) [Consent]
In a fancy hotel, a bell boy delivers a bottle of whiskey to a wealthy middle-aged client. The guest seduces the young man and offers him money for a sexual favor. But what started as a simple game becomes perverted and eventually violent.

Porcelain (USA)
A gay Filipino man goes home with a non-Asian man that he meets at a club. When he finds a chinaman figurine and other Asian knicknacks he's confronted with the issue of how race affects desire.

Scenes Of Inquiry (USA)
This quartet of short experimental films from gay filmmaker Michael J. Saul feature themes of first love, coming out, a gay teenage vampire and the beauty of youth. Contains the following short films: “Morning Dance”, “Dominus”, “Hover”, “Don’t Read Now”.

The Shortest Distance is Round 3: Fallen Flowers

Continuing with the weird trilogy of "The Shortest Distance", I am so glad that finally I am done with part 3 and won't have to deal with this again in future. Thankfully, as of now the makers have not announced any further parts; which will save all of us on this earth from the embarrassment of watching this in near future. After the first 10 minutes are used in sort of recapping bits of first two parts, the story moves forward. Haruto is now starting to have feelings for Ruka, the mysterious pole dancer from second part. In a fit of rage, Ruka ends up killing the goat man and to save him and Haruto, Shibahara asks them to go underground. Meanwhile Shibahara continues the search for Seiya (the guy who had cut off Haruto's penis). It turns out Seiya is now also taking care of the original club owner from part 1. Both of them were released after they had informed Shibahara of Aoyama's secret location. Shibahara tortures Seiya's boyfriend leading to Seiya killin

One Summer Night (Korean)

I really wanted to like this film but for non native speakers, these movie leaves a lot to be understood and the way scenes were unfolding in front of me, I wasn't sure many times what was really going on. The story had potential button getting any back story on any of the characters limited my ability to empathize with any of these actors. Film starts with two North Korea military guys Yong Joon and Jae Sung having sex and they are caught red handed and they run. Three years later we see Yong Joon in Seoul leading a very mundane and poor life. He has a boyfriend Tae-Kyu, who is a weird guy. He is carefree, doesn't do any work and is completely emotional and financially dependent on Young Joon. In fact, even Yong Joon will go to any lengths to protect him , fend for him and taking care of him to the extent of even taking up prostitution. Suddenly one day Jae Sung appears in their life again. His motivation is not clear but it is obvious he wants Yong Joon back in his life, who

Ultimate masturbation: Shigoki no yama (Japanese) [The Ultimate Masturbation]

I would never know what was the point behind making this film. Was it supposed to be a comedy, cos it wasn't. It wasn't even porn. It was just a silly attempt at making something absolutely senseless and ridiculous. The story, as well as direction is equally shoddy. You could laugh for having seen something so bad, but I wouldn't call that comedy. An old man runs a camp about gay masturbation. The explanation given is that gays masturbate for pleasure unlike straight men, for whom the act is seen as shame or because they can't find a woman. One day a straight man shows up and wants to join the camp for his thesis. After discussion, he is allowed in. Rules include that you can masturbate together, you can masturbate one another, but there is no fellatio or anal sex. Some students of course breaks rule. The teacher then talks about 2 forms of masturbation which gives ultimate pleasure. He shows one without touching and then refuses to talk of the other. Somehow suddenly,
