I am really not sure what to think of this movie! Was it a musical? Or more like an erotic soft porn? Because although it was neither of those, but with every passing moment of me trying to figure out what is it the makers are trying to go for in this film, I found myself finding the whole premise nothing but an excuse to sensualize the film and make it some sort of melodramatic gay drama pulsating its eroticism and power shifting school dynamic.
In an imaginary world I suppose, St Sebastian university has only male gay students. So sex and fun and drama is always in the air. The schoolmaster has a weird sexual tension with one of his students Charles who is this mystery boy and one of the few who doesn't have a boyfriend. While the schoolmaster fantasizes about the Charles, he is also haunted by his own younger days when he was in closet and a time when he was attacked viciously for being gay. Around this simultaneously the auditions for the annual Winter Procession are also going on where our focus is on 2 couples who also are good friends. But as the auditions happen, we see jealousy, one man upmanship and even cheating on their partners come to the fore. Every person wants to lead the group and when one of the four get that opportunity, Its not taken lightly by the other three. In a weird finale, when the procession is going on and while the schoolmaster and Charles are involved in their sex act, a fire breaks and somehow people manage to escape.
Yes, thats exactly how the film ends. I have so many questions about the film and the reason behind making this film that I don't even know where to start. I feel the actors were good and did what they were told to do, the production quality was quite good, but where was the story and what was it that the makers were really trying to say here? Was this an inspiration from high school musical? (The film had 3 music numbers and the last one actually had very good music). Was the relationship between the school master and Charles supposed to be symbolic of something? They constantly tease each other but neither makes the move? Or is it just a game? That dynamic versus the quartet and their whole thing was totally disjointed and could have been two different stories. One had nothing to do with another. The only good thing about the film is some very good eye candy, good performances and just the idea that this group of people could have achieved so much more. But sadly, when the script itself fails and your start is bad, there is not much progress one can make. (3.5/10)
