GameBoys (Tagalog) (Web Series)

One thing positive that came out of pandemic and lockdown is innovative ways of story telling. Stories that we can still connect with and also feels very current and for today's generation. Everything is moving so fast, so these stories help us stay current. This Filipino series is a love story about 2 gamers who meet online and eventually build a romantic relationship and were forced to stay at home as the world faces a pandemic.

Cairo is a live-stream gamer who is having a family and peer issue. He recently came out to his family and given the pandemic, his father is in hospital because of Covid. Gavreel, a non-gamer happens to see Cairo online and has instant crush on him. To get Cai’s attention and a chance to have a date with him, Gav entered the world of online gaming, and starts talking to Cairo. Before we know, Cairo starts getting a lot of "Hi Baby!" daily. Gav is hot, sexy and very outgoing in complete contrast to Cai's soft introvert persona. As expected, first few episodes take us through online chats. meetings, phone calls between Cai and Gav with Gav not leaving any stone unturned to impress Cai. Then there is Pearl, Gav's best friend and the girl whom Gav dated few years ago but is now the person who is instrumental in bringing the two boys together. As expected, the relationship has some ups and downs because of many reason like Cai's father passing away, Gav's ex Terence coming back into t he scene and wants to get back with Gav and then finally Cai's best friend from childhood who makes Gav jealous. The fact that the family may have to move away doesn't help. All's well that ends well and the two gorgeous boy eventually meet in person after misunderstandings and will hopefully have a happy future.

Gameboys is not just all about romantic love story between Cai and Gav, but it's also about close friendship and also the strong family bond. Cai is very close to his brother and parents which is clear and obvious. Similarly, Gav has Pearl has his angel/savior/friend/guide throughout. We often underestimate the importance of communication in any relationship and each of these people stress on that and we see how they take the story forward. It’s difficult to accept one’s mistake. But once we get the courage to admit our fault, we’ll be surprised how one word — sorry — can fix a damaged relationship when expressed genuinely. The series is very relevant to today's time and is all shown through chats and video calls. As a non-native speaker, it does take effort to follow the story and subtitles but its worth it. You can't complete the review without talking about the brilliant acting throughout the series. Gav is more than just a playboy and hot guy and genuine cares and loves Cai and someone who can get insecure. The actor playing him is awesome. He has that inherent charm that can whisk anyone away. Great choice of actor. Cairo was a bot awkward initially for me, but he starts to grow up, more because of how his character is supposed to be. Thanks to the duo's brilliant acting, I felt their excitement, their happiness, their anger, their pain. Let's quickly talk about Pearl as well who again was a brilliant actress and a very important link and reason to bring the two lovers together. There were a few cheesy scenes here and there but because the cast members are amazing thespians, in the end, the corny scenes were negligible. The innovations in production design, cinematography, computer graphics, sound engineering, musical scoring, and editing is amazing. I am not sure how the makers went about directing the show, but it felt as if the actors were doing it on their own which makes it very challenging but a very rewarding output.

Watch this show for the sheer chemistry, charm and breath of fresh air that the 2 leads bring along with a a crazy friend like Pearl, who, let's just say, we all need in our lives. A promising story of a love shaping up online between two strangers and of overcoming struggles we are facing in this covid-19 health crisis. Gameboys’ heart is at the right place. (7.5/10)

Nice, I heard too that it’s a nice BL series. I believe that the main actor here named Kokoy also do another BL series entitled “Oh, Mando”.

Well I will have to check that series as well then soon. Koko de Santos was absolutely delicious and one of the best things about this show.

So nice and refreshing and lifting up the spirits. Gav's way of saying "baby" is the cutest thing ever, Cai giving in slowly is adorable, and then there is crazy Pearl... She has her own lesbian series, I may want to watch it given how much I loved the girl. The series are so good at describing the difficult times and loneliness of people (especially the young ones) during this pandemic. Terrence and Gav low spirits when they have noone to talk to is so sad to watch. I loved the way they filmed the show using what it seems like real type ways. There are some striking sceneries, like when they meet and we see the streets are totally empty (sad reminder of what we've all been through). On a side note, I laughed when Cai' mother explained she had a ldr with his dad and Cai answered they would send each other letters. Like his parents are dinosaurs when they already had cell phones lmao. Little brat... Can't wait for the season 2 to arrive. Just stop making them cry at each episode please lol.

Cai was cryig a bit too much. i agree they need to just reduce that a bit. it gets a little too much. I miss Gav;s smile and personality. He really was the star for me.

This is my first Filipino BL that I ever watched and I’m really like it. I really like the Idea of video call perspective and the use of social media in this movie, that’s very creative and timely. It’s feels so relatable that sometimes it makes you feel like they're talking to you personally. The chemistry between the two main protagonists is remarkably good even though they're just looking in the camera and acting without actually seeing and touching each other and yet, they make me feel like they're truly in love with each other. The acting in this series is really really good that it makes me so badly hate Terrence, totally love Pearl and make me invested in Cai & Gav relationship. In my honest opinion, Pearl really put life in this series. She's amazing. I really love her energy and I know a lot of people wishing to have a friend like her. There's some drag moments episode toward the end of the season. But still the series finishes really nicely. The maker of this series really knows how to play with their audience feelings with the roller coasters of emotions especially in episode 7&8. I'm lucky that is created in Tagalog cause for me english subtitle really don't put that much justice in some Dialogue especially in Pearl's line. There's Tagalog lines that when translated into English it loses its funny essence. Lucky you who know how to speak Tagalog cause you'll enjoy the full glory of this series. There's some many good things to say about this series that It'll make my comment like a novel. But to summarize it: I totally loved it. I rate it 8.5/10.

LMAO I almost died laughing reading at your "bye in Pearl's voice" XD
I've watched "Like in the movies" twice already, it's one of my favourite series ever. Too bad it's so short... If you watch it, don't make the same mistake I did and watch the end credits as they are part of the whole thing. Hope you'll enjoy it :-)

"Like in Movies" is next on my list to watch as well.
We need more shows like GameBoys. I was absolutely charmed by every bit of it from beginning to end. We all have different tastes and I believe we're also influenced by our history and personal situation. To me, this is the best Fillipino show, way ahead of gaya sa pelikula and Ben x Jim. I kinda urged myself to watch it since it seemed so popular but I really expected some halfway funny cliché teenage online crush, nothing more. The remote controler was ready to expedite but I did not miss a single second and was hooked on the characters so fast it kept me up beyond reasonable sleep Time.
Top 10 BL so far :
1-Tharntype S1
2-Gameboys
3-until we meet again
4-I told sunset about you
5-Why R U
6-Together with me /Still Together
7- kiss me again/Dark blue kiss
8- LBC
9- Gaya sa pelikula
10- my mind

Obviously this is a personal ranking and a lot of people will disagree but in the end we all like the same shows, the difference is just about how we relate to them.

Please everyone feel free to recommend more shows, I will gladly watch and comment.

Thats why I love to see comments here, as you rightly said.. we are all individuals and have our choices but its through recommendations like this one, we get to share our thoughts and ideas. From your list I have not seen "Why R U" yet. maybe I will pick up that next

Love the concept of the list! I haven't seen as many BL as you guys but my list would be:
1- Love by chance + LBC2 + Reminders + 2Wish. Because it's been a week and I still can't get over it, re watching them over and over, and I don't even know why.
2- Tharntype. Because MewGulf forever.
3- Gaya sa pelikula. Because it's perfect but too short.
4- Until we meet again. Because too many emotions (and because saying "P'Deaan" has become a private joke at home lol)
5- HIStoty 3. Because it's mature and cute at the same time.
6- Hello strangers. Because as my 1st BL, it will always have a special place.
7- Gameboys. Because Pearl. Ok and the boys too.
8- Long time no see. Because it took me off guard.
9- 2Moons2
10- Dark blue kiss

I still have some of the most recommended ones to see so I'll happilly update this list in the future :-)
I'll add special mentions to "Fujoshi Ukkari..." and "my brother's husband" that are not really BL but are so good.

my brother's Husband is sooooooooooo good.
You need to watch " I told sunset about you", since I don't see that in your list
Sailor Maan said…
"I told sunset about you" is definitely on my list! I have the secret hope my husband will accept to watch it with me since it's not too long, that's why I've been delaying watching it so far. We should finish "Emily in Paris" this week so I'll make one last try *fingers crossed*. Else I'll go watch it on my own.

Good luck!!
btw : I LOVED 'Emily in Paris'

The Shortest Distance is Round 3: Fallen Flowers

Continuing with the weird trilogy of "The Shortest Distance", I am so glad that finally I am done with part 3 and won't have to deal with this again in future. Thankfully, as of now the makers have not announced any further parts; which will save all of us on this earth from the embarrassment of watching this in near future. After the first 10 minutes are used in sort of recapping bits of first two parts, the story moves forward. Haruto is now starting to have feelings for Ruka, the mysterious pole dancer from second part. In a fit of rage, Ruka ends up killing the goat man and to save him and Haruto, Shibahara asks them to go underground. Meanwhile Shibahara continues the search for Seiya (the guy who had cut off Haruto's penis). It turns out Seiya is now also taking care of the original club owner from part 1. Both of them were released after they had informed Shibahara of Aoyama's secret location. Shibahara tortures Seiya's boyfriend leading to Seiya killin

One Summer Night (Korean)

I really wanted to like this film but for non native speakers, these movie leaves a lot to be understood and the way scenes were unfolding in front of me, I wasn't sure many times what was really going on. The story had potential button getting any back story on any of the characters limited my ability to empathize with any of these actors. Film starts with two North Korea military guys Yong Joon and Jae Sung having sex and they are caught red handed and they run. Three years later we see Yong Joon in Seoul leading a very mundane and poor life. He has a boyfriend Tae-Kyu, who is a weird guy. He is carefree, doesn't do any work and is completely emotional and financially dependent on Young Joon. In fact, even Yong Joon will go to any lengths to protect him , fend for him and taking care of him to the extent of even taking up prostitution. Suddenly one day Jae Sung appears in their life again. His motivation is not clear but it is obvious he wants Yong Joon back in his life, who

Ultimate masturbation: Shigoki no yama (Japanese) [The Ultimate Masturbation]

I would never know what was the point behind making this film. Was it supposed to be a comedy, cos it wasn't. It wasn't even porn. It was just a silly attempt at making something absolutely senseless and ridiculous. The story, as well as direction is equally shoddy. You could laugh for having seen something so bad, but I wouldn't call that comedy. An old man runs a camp about gay masturbation. The explanation given is that gays masturbate for pleasure unlike straight men, for whom the act is seen as shame or because they can't find a woman. One day a straight man shows up and wants to join the camp for his thesis. After discussion, he is allowed in. Rules include that you can masturbate together, you can masturbate one another, but there is no fellatio or anal sex. Some students of course breaks rule. The teacher then talks about 2 forms of masturbation which gives ultimate pleasure. He shows one without touching and then refuses to talk of the other. Somehow suddenly,
