It's been a while since I saw the season 1 of this series and remember quite enjoying the sassiness of it all. So naturally I was looking forward to season 2, but I have to say that compared to the previous one, this show was largely underwhelming for me. The jokes did not land, the comedy seemed force, and overall something felt amiss. There are a total of 7 episodes (with the first one being more of a special episode that was aired few months back. That was more a pride special, where Cam and his drag-family read for drag queen story hour - but visitors aren't so excited about the idea.
A quick recap. Cam and Greg are a loving coupe who tried a poly relationship with the twink Princeton which did not work out, They have a lesbian neighbor couple, one of whom is close friends with Princeton. Even though things with Princeton did not work out, the couple is still very much open and wants to try threesomes, and each episode sort of focuses the move for that journey. Cam picks up a guy at the gym, who bears more than a passing resemblance to Greg and they think maybe they like the idea of threesome with twin energy and of course it doesn't work out. Meanwhile Princeton feels completely ignored and later the couple realizes that they haven't been fair to him. In fact he hosts a naked sex party, the one episode with lots of sex, where Cam and Greg show up to apologize only to meet a friend of Princeton with whom they hooked up with. There are also episodes dedicated to Christmas and New Years where Cam's family and the couple's naughty friends arrive and maybe the parents find out more than they need to know. Eventually Cam decides that he will tell his parents about the open relationship that he and Greg share. The final episode s when all these characters go for a puppet show, who scarily resemble them all and is almost like a revisit of their life history.
Season 2 just continues from where the first one left off, except for Cam not having his trademark mustache for first three episodes. The relationships evolve, the emotions differ, and couple's search for finding a happy third to join continues. Culturally, open relationships, polyamory, and ethical non-monogamy still sit on the fringe – most people might joke about wanting a threesome, but might not talk about how those dynamics work. So yes, the idea is there, but execution felt flat to me this time. The Christmas episode and the last one with puppet shows were extremely boring. And this time we also have a twist where Princeton is shown bi and is enjoying a semi-relationship with a dominatrix. What's also new is bringing in a deaf twink who is a contender for a polyamorous relationship. Now thats new!! But is that enough? It wasn't for me. Yes, the happy gay couple exist, they don't have to much drama and together want to open to the relationship, but the overdose of product placements of every nature is just too obvious in so many scenes, that it took away the joy. The couple is still cute and good looking, they are still saucy, but as far as the show goes, I definitely needed more. Overall, I was underwhelmed (disappointed maybe too string of a word). (4/10)
