This is a psychological horror about an obsessive girl who wouldn't leave this gay man alone. What initially feels like a quiet grief-driven drama steadily mutates into a claustrophobic character study, with the threat coming not from the supernatural, but from proximity, memory, and unresolved emotional trauma. Sadly this film was too boring to watch. I feel like the acting was good but there was just no thrill in watching it and I was yawning half the time.
Rowan's fiancee Tucker recently passed away and he is trying to move on with his life. He works at a barista and is a wanna musician. One day out of nowhere, an old schoolmate Mag appears out of nowhere. Turns out that Rown dated the girl briefly in high school. She comes across as just a woman looking to reconnect. But when she rents Rowan’s spare bedroom in his apartment, things quickly shift on their axis. She literally forces herself into renting that other room and starts to control Rowan's life without him actually realizing it. He often misses Mag’s odd, intrusive behavior and apologizes for her many public blunders. She’s a self-proclaimed “fag hag,” an outdated term for a straight woman who treats gay people like accessories. She worms herself into his life, insidiously permeating his work and friendships. When Rowan's best friend known as “twin,” K.C. , comes to stay for a week, Mag doesn’t take too kindly to Rowan having other friends. Before you know it, things turn deadly. Mag also gets total jealous about growing love an affection between gym trainer guy with Rowan and she does everything to make them separated. More stupid killings follow and the end reveals that in fact she killed Rowan's fiancé in the first place.
You know, you would think that this film would have that made for TV film kinda feeling but I dont know this just did not work for me. The actors were trying their best but the concept and execution just failed. The pacing wavers, tonal shifts are sometimes abrupt, and scenes that should feel suffocating instead come across as underdeveloped. How can Rowan be so naive and suddenly be so agreeable to this new girl. How can he not see the creep that she is. The leading girl does a decent job and the actor looks hot but thats about it. The subplots about Rowan's coffee partner or the sleazy music producer and suddenly Mag controlling him also just dont work. Interesting premise but felt more like stage drama with novices. I think we can all agree that this should be easily skippable. (2.5/10)
