Daburu Mintsu (Japanese) [Double Mints]

To be honest, I am not sure of I totally understood the film. A lot of scenes and the narrative felt disconnected and I just couldn't understand the reasons behind actions of a lot of characters. At one point, I was so confused to where the film is really headed to. So, given all this, you can imagine my review is not going to be a great one.

The story is about 2 boys, both incidentally named Mitsuo. By flashbacks, we realize that in school one was a bully and other other bullied and eventually they got into a master/slave kind of a relationship where the bully Mitsuo would insult him on every possibility. In fact he even takes the virginity of bullied Mitsuo just to show him his place. The film starts with present time when bullied Mitsuo gets a call after many years from bully Mitsuo informing him that he has killed a girl and wants his help. The bullied guy is calm, composed and doing well for himself where the bully is more rampant, aggressive and doesn't think through. Through careful thinking, they bury the girl, and bullied Mitsuo kisses the other guy very passionately. A cop starts following these 2 guys when the news comes out but turns out the girl was alive and was bully Mitsuo's girlfriend. Our bullied guy sleeps with her to take revenge and eventually the two guys get into a physical relationship. We are also told that bully Mitsuo works for a dreaded gangster (there is some homoeroticism there as well). He wants out but he can't. Mitsuo tries to help but instead gets entangled himself. The two try to get rid of gangsters after them and also the cop. Impulsive Mitsuo ends up killing a cop and in a separate incident get badly beaten and raped and tortured by the gang. In an ending that I am not very sure how it happens, the duo manage to escape to Korea.

As I mentioned above, I was so confused in so many scenes. Whey does impulsive Mitsuo go to cops and confess of a murder and when they start investigating, he then tries to run and avoid them. And if the girl is actually alive, then why the whole drama by the police in the first place? To try to get closer to gangster? I am not sure. Mitsuo is just an errand boy for him. When does bullied Mitsuo start having feelings for the other. It randomly starts and is equally randomly reciprocated by him. It just comes out of nowhere, especially after the years of master/slave relationship that they have shared, as we get to know via flashbacks. Coming to that, there was really no reason for Mitsuo to agree to such an arrangement. Does that mean that he was always a submissive kind of guy and was actually looking for a master? I wish more focus was given to the overall story line rather than the random of events in the film, especially since the production values seem above average. Its not like they were in shortage of finance or anything.

The actors’ (both younger and the older version) performances are generally well done and the two sets of Mitsuo actors complement each other. But there is way too much confusion in the plot. It definitely needs rewriting and a more seamless flow of narrative. It was strictly ok. I wont really recommend it. (4.5/10)

Sei no Gekiyaku (Japanese) [Dangerous Drugs of Sex]

Every person has their own unique way of dealing with loss. This film is as much a psychological thriller as it is a soft porn BDSM portrayal of two young men that makes the film overall horrifying as well as humane. It is really hard to describe the genre of this film in one word. Its important not that the film has some really disturbing scenes so if you go into seeing this film, please proceed with caution. Although any sexual non-consensual activity is not ok, this film has its won strange way of showing that suicide is not the only solution to all life's problems. ON top of it, his parents sudden death coming back from a trip that he forced them to take, he gets completely dejected and decides to commit suicide. Drug Shore (Chinese)

Apparently tis film was adapted by a true story Well, true or not, movies/series about drugs are not easy to watch. I have always said that drugs is like the end of life for anyone. For those who sink into this sea of addiction, some manage to swim upstream to recovery, while others cannot make it to the shore. The film may not be the best, but it does have a noble intention to remind everyone of the evil affects of drugs and combining that with sex. Ah Zhe is in a happy relationship with his influencer boyfriend. On his partner's birthday, they end up going to a party, which interestingly is being hosted at a drug dealer's house and this is where for the first time he is exposed to the world of drugs. The duo somehow do it just enough and come back home but next day Ah She gets invited by the dealer Xiao Fei for a meal. The dealer has a soft corner for Ah Zhe, but before anyone realizes, Ah Zhe's life spirals out of control when slowly he starts doing more and more drugs, ...

The Shortest Distance is Round 3: Fallen Flowers

Continuing with the weird trilogy of "The Shortest Distance", I am so glad that finally I am done with part 3 and won't have to deal with this again in future. Thankfully, as of now the makers have not announced any further parts; which will save all of us on this earth from the embarrassment of watching this in near future. After the first 10 minutes are used in sort of recapping bits of first two parts, the story moves forward. Haruto is now starting to have feelings for Ruka, the mysterious pole dancer from second part. In a fit of rage, Ruka ends up killing the goat man and to save him and Haruto, Shibahara asks them to go underground. Meanwhile Shibahara continues the search for Seiya (the guy who had cut off Haruto's penis). It turns out Seiya is now also taking care of the original club owner from part 1. Both of them were released after they had informed Shibahara of Aoyama's secret location. Shibahara tortures Seiya's boyfriend leading to Seiya killin...
