Fight For You (Taiwanese Series)

This Taiwanese series is supposed to be an action-romantic-comedy, but it ends up largely being a silly, cutesy romance, with some elements of action and comedy sprinkled here and there. So, essentially, if you take away bits of spy-fights etc; it is once agin tier another series which is about two boys falling in love following the usual BL tropes. The series has 12 episodes of 24-28 minutes each, so thankfully easier time management. Story is that bold and the show could have easily been folded sooner.

The show starts with Xiao Bai and Da Hei looking for an apartment as roommates together. They dont know each other well. Once they find an apartment, we find that Da Hen is actually an investigation officer, who has been sent to keep an eye on Xiao Bei, who works for a local gangster to raise some money for his sister's surgery who is in hospital and insurance doesn't cover. Da Hei has lied to his grandmother who runs a food stall near the gangster's office about the sister. Xiao Bai follows Da Hei everywhere when he goes for "assignment" but he never finds anything fishy and always says that he goes for simple work. The duo, at some point start to pretend they ar boyfriends, when Da Hei's grandmother suddenly shows up at his apartment looking for his girlfriend. As expected, a fake relationship soon becomes love, especially when Xiao saves Da Hai a few times on his risky work assignments. Meanwhile intelligence agency finds out that Xiao Bai has fallen in love and may not be serious about his work so he is called off from mission. He tells the truth to Da Hen, who feels betrayed while they are deeply in love still. He forgives him mentally and then the last three episodes are literally about Xio Bai's grandfather having to accept that his grandson is gay and is in love with another man. He cannot comprehend that but when the grandma pays a visit, everything is sorted. There is also a parallel short story of sorts about the gangster (who is probably a nice guy), once had an affair with Xiao Bai's boss at the agency but eventually he is now in love with Bai's older brother.

The thing with this series is that it's just basic. Chemistry and acting was more than decent and it was quite fun to watch, but nothing earth shattering. It doesn't leave you with any long lasting impressions. Personally, I was into the show just because of Xiao Bai. He was super cute and the way he secretly follows Da Hei and falls in love with him and makes him fall in love was all cutesy. When the show started, I thought I will get see some spy stuff since Da Hei is supposed to work for a dreaded gangster, but both the gangster and the intelligence agency was almost a dud. We never see the gangster guy do anything shady and meanwhile the less said about the "intelligence office" the better. So, maybe you will enjoy the show if you tell yourself that it is just one of those silly shows that just want to entertain and does not have to be taken seriously. The problem is when you set expectations in first couple of episodes but then the series goes in a different direction. Even the whole premise on how they got in a relationship and how it progresses over a period of time was full of gay BL tropes and nothing was new here. I did enjoy the frequent kisses though. The series works primarily because of leads and their chemistry and some other good looking characters. But besides that it was yet another average show. (5.5/10)

Sei no Gekiyaku (Japanese) [Dangerous Drugs of Sex]

Every person has their own unique way of dealing with loss. This film is as much a psychological thriller as it is a soft porn BDSM portrayal of two young men that makes the film overall horrifying as well as humane. It is really hard to describe the genre of this film in one word. Its important not that the film has some really disturbing scenes so if you go into seeing this film, please proceed with caution. Although any sexual non-consensual activity is not ok, this film has its won strange way of showing that suicide is not the only solution to all life's problems. ON top of it, his parents sudden death coming back from a trip that he forced them to take, he gets completely dejected and decides to commit suicide. Drug Shore (Chinese)

Apparently tis film was adapted by a true story Well, true or not, movies/series about drugs are not easy to watch. I have always said that drugs is like the end of life for anyone. For those who sink into this sea of addiction, some manage to swim upstream to recovery, while others cannot make it to the shore. The film may not be the best, but it does have a noble intention to remind everyone of the evil affects of drugs and combining that with sex. Ah Zhe is in a happy relationship with his influencer boyfriend. On his partner's birthday, they end up going to a party, which interestingly is being hosted at a drug dealer's house and this is where for the first time he is exposed to the world of drugs. The duo somehow do it just enough and come back home but next day Ah She gets invited by the dealer Xiao Fei for a meal. The dealer has a soft corner for Ah Zhe, but before anyone realizes, Ah Zhe's life spirals out of control when slowly he starts doing more and more drugs, ...

The Shortest Distance is Round 3: Fallen Flowers

Continuing with the weird trilogy of "The Shortest Distance", I am so glad that finally I am done with part 3 and won't have to deal with this again in future. Thankfully, as of now the makers have not announced any further parts; which will save all of us on this earth from the embarrassment of watching this in near future. After the first 10 minutes are used in sort of recapping bits of first two parts, the story moves forward. Haruto is now starting to have feelings for Ruka, the mysterious pole dancer from second part. In a fit of rage, Ruka ends up killing the goat man and to save him and Haruto, Shibahara asks them to go underground. Meanwhile Shibahara continues the search for Seiya (the guy who had cut off Haruto's penis). It turns out Seiya is now also taking care of the original club owner from part 1. Both of them were released after they had informed Shibahara of Aoyama's secret location. Shibahara tortures Seiya's boyfriend leading to Seiya killin...
