This is a collection of short film from various years and countries about forbidden love stories where gay men navigate the intense conflict between their deep-seated religious beliefs and their passionate desires. I would say that this was an interesting subject to pick and find LGBT themed films that fall in this category. Although I am not surprised because religion if often the only tool people have been using for years to make the folks in LGBTQ+ community ashamed of themselves. What I was actually surprised is that I had not seen any of these films before, which is something, given that it has been many years since I have been keeping this blog.
When Father Matthew discovers an intimacy between two of the other priests at a remote conversion-therapy centre in Northern Ireland, his attempt to do the right thing leads to a crisis of faith and feeling. Matthew believes that he is helping his fellow priests but he realizes that perhaps the practice is much more harmful than good and there are better ways for him to choose the path of compassion and understanding. Behind the striking religious imagery and repressed sexuality, this is the story of one man’s desire to be good and his journey to discover how.
Nestor, a seminarian obsessed with holiness and tormented by the devil, is found hanged in his bedroom. Esteban, his only friend, tells the story leading up to Nestor's death during an interrogation. Through the story, a repressed and sickly love from Nestor towards Esteban becomes known. Pain and pleasure, temptation of the flesh and sexual repression, make part of a mystery hidden behind a mystic and enigmatic thriller.
Reverend Johnson lives in a small town in the middle of the United States, and tries to keep his secret. He likes to dress in drag and one day his parishioners find out the hard way when they try to surprise him for this birthday. A really short short-film.
School mates Charlie and Matt share a kiss, initiated by Mark but immediately after that he storms off. At a catechism lesson, Matt accuses Charlie of it not being consensual and an argument erupts. I did not like how this was left open ended. We needed to put Matt in his place. No one can just accuse the other person like that. It is a poorly developed plot that needed a better ending.

In the church, Han-jung learns that the Seo han is gay through outings. Han jung say I understand seo han, but he is afraid of the unintended inconvenience caused by seo han. This is the official synopsis, but I didn't;t understand much after watching the film. It feels like two men, one gay and the other is curious, get to know each other better while woking on a school play. Weird!!
