Light On Me (Korean Series)

This series had some really positive feedback in general, so I was looking forward to watching it. Also, Korean shows have been a decent bag and recently they have definitely upped their game. Unfortunately, though the series was good, it never managed to rise above good and show up something new, something that we have not sen before. With 16 episodes ranging from 20-30 minutes, this is a significant investment of time.

18 year old Tae Kyung is a shy loner boy who has never had any friend. When he reaches 11th grade, one of his teachers mentors him and asks him to join the student council consisting of three members which will help him navigate school and make friends. The president Da On is like the perfect guy who is charming and can never do any wrong. HIs best friend is this happy go lucky person and finally we have Shin Woo, somebody who comes as a very cold and distant guy and needs time to open up to people. When Tae joins the group, Shin Woo is initially reluctant but it turns out that he has a crush on Tae for sometime now ever since he saw him. But he notices that Da On is taking special interest in Tae, to the extent that even Da On's girlfriend feels neglected. Even tae is enjoying this attention and hence Shin Woo keeps his distance. When Tae admits his feelings to Da On, he is pleasantly surprised but before he could reciprocate his feelings, the rumors go wild in school and he freaks out trying to protect his image, leaving Tae heartbroken. Shin Woo is the one who takes care of tae and tries to win his love knowing well that tae may still like Da On. After a few days of awkwardness, finally things start to fall in place. Tae realizes that its Shin who has been been constantly throughput with him and his love for Da On was probably an affection or respect or something else. By the time Da On comes to his realization, it's already too late and he lets the two boys be together.

The story is a typical love drainage without being one. It pretty much remains two separate love stories with a common thread because no one tries to sabotage the other's love. What I found weird is that how can a guy who has been a loner all his life , introvert and shy suddenly feel so comfortable to be able to even profess his love and feel jealous when someone else talks to Da On. The change in Tae's behaviors was very drastic and sudden. And also for all the love and heartache that he got after Da On leaves him, he was a little too quick in accepting Shin's advances. The boys look cute and they have great chemistry together but I think Tae's acting leaves a lot to be desired. He doesn't have that charm and suave that the lead character needs. Da On and his funny guy friend were perfect for their parts. I feel Shin Woo got the worse deal. As the silent lover, his character graph wasn't properly etched out and could use some improvement. Also, can we please stop making the girlfriends in these BL stories to be all villains. I bet there is a lot more that these characters can do. Her actions were quite weird and unbelievable at parts. Finally the show is very PG. We barely get one kiss towards the end but besides that, we just see actors longing fo love without showing any love, if you know what I mean. I'd say this is still better than a lot of crap out there but still just one time watch with no recall value. (6/10)

Cute series. However what amused me the most is the fact that it has the most shojo manga (manga for young girls) I've ever seen, except it's with boys. You have all the very common tropes in characters: the perfect president with inner turmoil, the funny but dependable friend, the "dark" one with actually good heart, the girl nemesis who turns good in the end... And the love triangle of course! Which is usually the main interest, trying to guess who will be chosen in the end. Really it was super funny to see all that but with a boy as a lead. Unfortunately, Tae is not that likable and as you said his sudden change from introvert to popular left me dubitative too.

I have learnt a new term today "Shojo manga". The series was decent as compared to a ton of crap out there, but having seen so many of these shows by now, we all sort of know what to expect, so we just need to learn to manage our expectations accordingly. I know, I do.

The Shortest Distance is Round 3: Fallen Flowers

Continuing with the weird trilogy of "The Shortest Distance", I am so glad that finally I am done with part 3 and won't have to deal with this again in future. Thankfully, as of now the makers have not announced any further parts; which will save all of us on this earth from the embarrassment of watching this in near future. After the first 10 minutes are used in sort of recapping bits of first two parts, the story moves forward. Haruto is now starting to have feelings for Ruka, the mysterious pole dancer from second part. In a fit of rage, Ruka ends up killing the goat man and to save him and Haruto, Shibahara asks them to go underground. Meanwhile Shibahara continues the search for Seiya (the guy who had cut off Haruto's penis). It turns out Seiya is now also taking care of the original club owner from part 1. Both of them were released after they had informed Shibahara of Aoyama's secret location. Shibahara tortures Seiya's boyfriend leading to Seiya killin

One Summer Night (Korean)

I really wanted to like this film but for non native speakers, these movie leaves a lot to be understood and the way scenes were unfolding in front of me, I wasn't sure many times what was really going on. The story had potential button getting any back story on any of the characters limited my ability to empathize with any of these actors. Film starts with two North Korea military guys Yong Joon and Jae Sung having sex and they are caught red handed and they run. Three years later we see Yong Joon in Seoul leading a very mundane and poor life. He has a boyfriend Tae-Kyu, who is a weird guy. He is carefree, doesn't do any work and is completely emotional and financially dependent on Young Joon. In fact, even Yong Joon will go to any lengths to protect him , fend for him and taking care of him to the extent of even taking up prostitution. Suddenly one day Jae Sung appears in their life again. His motivation is not clear but it is obvious he wants Yong Joon back in his life, who

Ultimate masturbation: Shigoki no yama (Japanese) [The Ultimate Masturbation]

I would never know what was the point behind making this film. Was it supposed to be a comedy, cos it wasn't. It wasn't even porn. It was just a silly attempt at making something absolutely senseless and ridiculous. The story, as well as direction is equally shoddy. You could laugh for having seen something so bad, but I wouldn't call that comedy. An old man runs a camp about gay masturbation. The explanation given is that gays masturbate for pleasure unlike straight men, for whom the act is seen as shame or because they can't find a woman. One day a straight man shows up and wants to join the camp for his thesis. After discussion, he is allowed in. Rules include that you can masturbate together, you can masturbate one another, but there is no fellatio or anal sex. Some students of course breaks rule. The teacher then talks about 2 forms of masturbation which gives ultimate pleasure. He shows one without touching and then refuses to talk of the other. Somehow suddenly,
