Gay Themed

This is a short and sweet film which has a great potential of being made into a feature length film. Ben is smitten by college jock Johnny. During one of the rehearsals, Ben offers to help Johnny to remember his lines. The rehearsal takes place poolside at Johnny's home - with refreshments courtesy of abandoned champagne from a recent party of his parents'. As they drink, run lines and chat their relationship develops and they share one secret with each other. Ben never having kissed anyone and Johnny never having been blown. Ben dares him and blows him but suddenly the other friends come. Johnny freaks out and gets out of the pool but in the end just gives a smile to Ben (indicating he loved what just happened) and thats it. Simple short stuff with good looking boys can definitely do wonders for this one. Acting was good and even though it was a short film, there was no compromise on the quality of the product. (7.5/10)

I think I have mentioned before a few times in my blog about the kind of movies I prefer. I definitely like movies where there is a group of people and they show how there life is screwed up and how everyone has some or the other issues. It would be wrong to classify this film as gay film because apart from the fact hat Peter is hinted to be bisexual, there is nothing else in the movie that shows or depicts that it is for just gay audience. Six friends in an acting troupe graduate from Cambridge University in 1982 and go their separate ways. Ten years later, Peter inherits a large estate from his father, and invites the rest of the gang to spend New Year's holiday with him. Roger and Mary are now married. Mary is always stressed about their son because they already have lost another child. She i always in panic mode. This was a little confusing film. Not as much from the story perspective but from teh way it was directed and the way the film was heading to. It was a little confusing following the whole plot. Antonin is a young man who hangs out wit his friends. He is in love with Alex who is deep in drugs but never had the courage to tell him. He lives with his divorced mom who is unhappy with her life. One day because of drug abuse, Alex dies. This leave Antonin devastated. In pursuit to search for himself he turns into being a hustler and making money for himself. During one such encounters, he becomes friends with a guy who is going through his breakup. but during the course he meets a girl Juliette and he falls in love with her. He stops hustling but keeps visiting his friend whom he met. The film goes through various twists involving these three individuals. Now this one truly for me was a different film. A different set of characters, different chemistry among them and focussing on a completely new story. It was nice to watch it. Not that it is a path breaking cinema or anything but I like fact that the director tried to do something new. At least from my perspective. Zobel and Karl are a long time gay coouple with their daughter Lizzie. The form a trio of pick pocketers who steal from rich to live. As the despondent Karl grows more insecure, dissatisfied and absent-minded, the possibility of a new partner is bandied about by father and daughter. An unfortunate accident of Karl leaves no choice for the other two but put their faith on a young man named Rudolf who once tried to steal from them. Rudolf is also a very sexy, shambling young upstart who is only too willing to gratify the father/daughter team in whatever ways it takes to become part of the scheme team. This film looks like it has been made by a relative new director. The story was very basic and paper thin but the treatment was very fresh and real. There were lot of time where one way or the other I was able to relate to the film and the characters.  Trevor is entangled in a very unhealthy relationship with Darrell who s a drug addict. He is also in a telemarketing job which he hates. When Darrell is caught doing drugs no sooner than he came out of rehab, Trevor decides he cant take it any more. He meets a charming doctor Ephram and begins dating him. They have a very sweet and cute relationship going on. Trevor shares an apartment with Andie, a morose alcoholic who passes out during a party and awakes to discover she had sex with a stranger she can’t remember. They also have a best friend Jake who is practically living with them and is very harsh and speaks his mind. They make a good trio. I can't remember but I am pretty sure I watched a film with a similar theme earlier. This one although was funnier and sassier than the ones I have seen before. Forget the acting aspect but overall it was a good fun experience. The film is set in a modern world where being gay is the norm and straight people are in minority and are considered perverts. Yiannis is a straight man in a gay world, who secretly goes to straight clubs. He has loving dads and he is afraid to come out to them and tell them he is straight. He loves Sophia at his work but is too afraid to say her because she is already in relationship with another girl. Secretly Yiannis hangs out with his straight friends and goto clubs. One of the night, SOphia and Yiannis get both drunk and end up sleeping with each other. Yiannis likes her but now she is confused because she totally loves her partner but she also can't resist the temptation of being with a man. Meanwhile one of Yiannis's dad has had an affair with...

Relax!! Its not a movie about graphic sex. It may start with that but the movie has much more to it. It has comedy, satire, issues, friendship and yes, a tear here and there. Overall it s a very good movie to watch.  The movie is around a group of friends headed by Tara (whom everyone knows as gossip monger or local newspaper if you may). She is Vincey's fag hag who is single and is desperately looking for love and thinks that the next man whom he hooks up with is going to be his boyfriend. Its finally so good to see a few likable gay movies. I had been thirsty to watch them after a series of really bad films. This one is exactly what I look forward from a film. A little bit of love, comedy, romance and madness and this film fit the bill perfectly.  Six university housemates are brought together after a gap of few years for a wedding. Bob and Brendan have been best of buddies. Bob had huge crush on Brendan which a few girlfriends knew. Bob now has a soap opera star Sterling as a boyfriend who is visiting with him. Sterling likes the idea of wedding, getting settled and theme parties. Brendan is now a teacher in Boston who has come out to their friend Eric but no one else. I now seriously need to rethink my whole strategy of gay films. Of late, barring a few films here and there, most of the gay films that I have seen are nothing but a major disappointment. Needless to say that this film just adds to that list. A young artist Manny spends a lot of his time on internet chat with webcam when he is not working or hanging with friends, keeping his physical encounters anonymous to avoid personal disappointment. On the Internet chat line (using 'open camera') some murders are captured and a detective Hamilton takes over the investigation. The detective and Manny had a fling a few weeks back. When Manny's friends (or ex tricks) begin to fall victim to the serial killer on the Internet, Hamilton moves in with Manny to protect him, and it is in this living situation (a very physical arrangement) that the serial killer is finally caught on camera and in person. Finally a funny and a very interesting film. When I found out that the film was sort f musical, I had my reservations, but they turned out to be totally wrong. The music was just perfect amount and it represented a state of mind or action and gelled perfectly well with the mood of the film. More on that later. Timothy is an openly gay student who is picked upon by everyone in the school Rugby team. As part of annual drama festival, all students are made to mandatorily participate in the Shakespeare's Midnight's Summer Dream play. The drama teacher is this mysterious lady whom we dont know anything about. The play has a fairy named Puck can sprinkle a magic elixir into someone's eyes, causing that person to fall madly in love with the first person they lay eyes on. A catchy title and a decent looking starcast. Its been awhile since I watched a foreign language film and that why I picked up this one having no faintest idea what it was about. It was different, weird, over the top at times. In short bad Max and Pascal are a couple living together in Amsterdam. Max is a successful TV producer and Pascal is a soap star and a wannabe Hollywood Actor. Apparently Max had once cheated on Pascal but they are still living together trying to work it out. Enters an American named Guy who is publishing a book on gays and their relationship is again tested. Max and Guy are very attracted to each other and on Max's and Pascals 3 year anniversary, they end up kissing and making out. Pascal freaks out and asks Max to leave. Later Max realizes that guy is just a random guy who all he wants is sex and fun and nothing else. Max realizes his fault and goes back to Pascal. If someone tells me hat this one was supposed to be artistic, then that is crap. What use is the art if at every 5 minutes in the film, the where is completely confused as to where the film is going (present, past, future). While watching you can try so hard to analyze hat this might be something that protagonist is thinking but still the movie just ends and you are still left with your questions and no answers. Sometimes there are very good intentions behind making a certain film, people do a good job of acting, the premise is good but even then the end product leaves out that something extra special that could have alleviated the films ranking to a better status. This film can be counted as one of those films. Everything going for the film is good, different and humane but there is something about he way it is handled that leaves us asking for more. Time is World War 2. A frenchman Guy lives all by himself in woods and has a very vague history. He says he has been raised by cows. He has a girlfriend Jenine but for the larger part of it, he is very weird, his activities are weird and involve him and only him. Finally I get to see a decent film after a series of trashy gay films. At least this film had a message, a theme, a meaning and emotions behind it. It was not just mish mash of hot men having random sex and trying to bring out some erratic story to big screen. This film tells us the real life story of Pedro, a young AIDs activist who lost his life to the disease at the age of 22. Pedro, a young Latin guy is diagnosed with HIV at the age of 17. Instead of sulking, he makes a courageous decision to dedicate ret of his life speaking at various events, college etc about HIV and try to create awareness among people. In such a time, MTV asked him to feature in their reality show "The Real World", so that people can know the real Pedro. It i during this phase that he meets the love of his life whom he ends up marrying. Slowly Pedro's health start deteriorating and even before the show could go on air, he is hospitalized.
