Cam Boy: Season 2 (Canadian Series)

The Canadian web series  Cam Boy  is back for a second season, and I'm a bit late getting to it. While the first season really stuck to Aston’s story and his struggle to make ends meet, this season spreads things out much more. Across six episodes, the show gives us a bunch of mini-stories about different guys in the industry, while still showing us how things are moving along for Aston. Like I said, there are about 21 or 22 tiny stories packed into these six episodes. Aston is now in a relationship with the handyman from the first season, but he’s still working as a cam boy. One day, he accidentally starts streaming a live sex show with his boyfriend. He realizes what's happening halfway through, but he doesn't stop because he sees the money pouring in. When the boyfriend finds out, he’s furious and walks out on him. Then we have Riley, another guy who usually sells a "boyfriend experience" to his viewers. Things get creepy when one of his clients just shows up a...

Férfiakt (Hungarian) [Men In Nude]

The title of this film cannot be more misleading. Not only was there no nudity wrt men (by which I mean , no frontal nude shots), the title itself had absolutely no relevance to the film. I took a break from watching gay films after the Philly film festival hoping that when I start watching movies again, I will pick the ones which will be meaningful, entertaining and relevant. This film clearly did not belong into any of these categories. I am hoping the results will be better next time.

Tibor is 49 year old aging writer married to a narcissistic actress who is out for work most of the time. One night he surprises himself by taking home an effeminate young street thug / hustler named Zsolt who comes out of nowhere and literally forces himself on Tibor. Always straight, there is something about Zsolt that he cannot resist and they start having an affair. Things start taking an awkward turn when his wife comes back. They need to find new places to meet. Because of this love, passion and secret affairs, a new creative spirit awakens in Tibor who starts writing o book on this. What Tibor doesn't realize is how risky is this whole thing filled with blackmails and someone who is just after money. His wife ultimately finds out the truth by reading his book and confronting him. Their sexual life is so bland that one day even she ends up cheating on him. For Zsolt, Tibor is just another guy whom he uses for money. The movie just abruptly ends as it started with Tibor and Zsolt's meeting.

The acting I would say was alright by the lead characters but things were just not explained right. The scenes would get randomly cut, the sub plots would be truncated randomly. And what was the whole point of those drug scenes in the so called 'red' flat where Tibor used to visit to meet Zsolt. If Zsolt was using Tibor for money and passion, how could he have been so idiotic and stupid o not realize what he was after. I feel that at some point even he wanted Zsolt to be with him since he had to finish his book and only Zsolt could keep his creative juices flowing.

It is a weird film. I would really not recommend this one. (3/10)

Golu, I think you said it right about this movie being disjoined and inexplicable. That being said, it actually was my favorite movie of all the ones I saw at Outfest, I think it was two festivals ago. I liked it ONLY because I thought the "hustler" (or whatever he was) was very hot, physically. I didn't find him to be feminine, but instead I liked his body and his seductive manner, and I could see someone wanting to have sex with him because I wanted to have sex with him!

So many foreign films, at least from an American point of view (which, of course, does not set the cultural standard, it is only what I am used to), really don't make any sense to me, either because the culture may be so different from ours, or else there is just some kind mistranslation along the way. (French films OUTDO us, in my opinion, but many cultures with a less-developed experience of film-making fall far short.) So for films like this, I just shrug and enjoy the eye candy (my taste for eye candy).

That being said, I do think it is horrible and probably pretty sad and depressing, that there is such thing as "aging", particularly how it is experienced among gay people; where after a certain "prime" (what is the dividing line, age 40? maybe even earlier?), beauty and desirability fades completely to the culture at large, yet desire for that beauty (to be in relationship with it if one can't BE it directly) does not fade at all. It is quite easy for the unscrupulous to take advantage of that situation, as apparently happens in this film. I try to avoid seeing films like that if I know that is what is happening going into it. Ultimately, they are all just about misery and we gain nothing from seeing this kind of film.

The hustler in the film was definitely seductive but somehow I felt he was more forceful than seductive. Those mannerisms probably should not work on a all straight man. And yes, I agree that French films outdo us. There have been some really good french cinema both gay and otherwise.

You last comment is very interesting and deep. I agree with everything that you say but to an extent one who is taken advantage of is also to be blamed to a certain extent. That said, it is definitely very sad that it is thought beauty and desirability fades. I dont mind seeing such films. yes, the end is predictable but you never know, one day some director might decide to take it a different route..

Reminds me of the book 'Michael Tolliver lives' where he at 60 lives with a younger 30 year old guy and they are both happy with their arrangement.

Drug Shore (Chinese)

Apparently tis film was adapted by a true story Well, true or not, movies/series about drugs are not easy to watch. I have always said that drugs is like the end of life for anyone. For those who sink into this sea of addiction, some manage to swim upstream to recovery, while others cannot make it to the shore. The film may not be the best, but it does have a noble intention to remind everyone of the evil affects of drugs and combining that with sex. Ah Zhe is in a happy relationship with his influencer boyfriend. On his partner's birthday, they end up going to a party, which interestingly is being hosted at a drug dealer's house and this is where for the first time he is exposed to the world of drugs. The duo somehow do it just enough and come back home but next day Ah She gets invited by the dealer Xiao Fei for a meal. The dealer has a soft corner for Ah Zhe, but before anyone realizes, Ah Zhe's life spirals out of control when slowly he starts doing more and more drugs, ...

Sei no Gekiyaku (Japanese) [Dangerous Drugs of Sex]

Every person has their own unique way of dealing with loss. This film is as much a psychological thriller as it is a soft porn BDSM portrayal of two young men that makes the film overall horrifying as well as humane. It is really hard to describe the genre of this film in one word. Its important not that the film has some really disturbing scenes so if you go into seeing this film, please proceed with caution. Although any sexual non-consensual activity is not ok, this film has its won strange way of showing that suicide is not the only solution to all life's problems. Makoto is a regular office goer, who just finds out that his girlfriend is probably cheating on him. ON top of it, his parents sudden death coming back from a trip that he forced them to take, he gets completely dejected and decides to commit suicide. Unknown to him, he is saved by mysterious man Yoda Ryoji, and he wakes up finding himself tied up in leather and belts in a very BDSM setting. This mysterious saver soo...

The Shortest Distance is Round 3: Fallen Flowers

Continuing with the weird trilogy of "The Shortest Distance", I am so glad that finally I am done with part 3 and won't have to deal with this again in future. Thankfully, as of now the makers have not announced any further parts; which will save all of us on this earth from the embarrassment of watching this in near future. After the first 10 minutes are used in sort of recapping bits of first two parts, the story moves forward. Haruto is now starting to have feelings for Ruka, the mysterious pole dancer from second part. In a fit of rage, Ruka ends up killing the goat man and to save him and Haruto, Shibahara asks them to go underground. Meanwhile Shibahara continues the search for Seiya (the guy who had cut off Haruto's penis). It turns out Seiya is now also taking care of the original club owner from part 1. Both of them were released after they had informed Shibahara of Aoyama's secret location. Shibahara tortures Seiya's boyfriend leading to Seiya killin...
