I cant believe this film came back in late 80s. It I snot an obvious gay film, because I guess those days it wasn't easy to make something in your face, but everything about our two leads seem to suggest the two are just friends whose attraction for one another is still in the early stages. Yet these handsome boys joyfully touch, hug, and rough-play with one another in a manner that is far more explicitly sexual, and immensely more sensuous. The simple film is just under an hour and an easy watch. Climax gives us an impression of the difficulties of a male romance in a homophobic rural community. The story is simple. Follow up to the film I just reviewed, and I really don't even know why I'm watching these films. I really need to stop. But here is a quick review of this soft porn Japanese Pink film which continues to focus on the gay S&M word. This time it becomes a murder mystery of sorts interspersed with a whole lot of sexual scenes as you would expect. The story here is again basic. Of late there have been a couple of murders where after a fierce S&M play, young men are found dead strangulated. So a police detective is put on duty to find the culprit. To find the details, he needs to visit the famous S&M club in the area. In the course of the investigation, the journalist of course discovers a love of s&m himself and indulges multiple times with one the performers and is eventually courted by the killer himself. This part documentary and part drama fantasy film is centered around a research project on the policing around urinals and washrooms in Ontario, Canada where gay men were constantly arrested for sexual acts. The film tries to show the lengths that the cops would go including use of plain clothed agents who would entice you and video footage to make easy arrests. Sadly, the execution of the film is absolutely bizarre and totally weird and awful for common audiences like me. This French film follows the lives of its characters over a period of 10 years from 1978 to 1988. The film has romance, coming out, incest, AIDS epidemic, liberation etc. Apparently the film was shot in flat 10 days, which shows in its stage like sets and a play kind of feeling to it. Louis is a married man with their daughter. His wife has a very high libido and it seems Louis has some sort of relationship going on with his daughter as well. He has had enough and he gets separated from his wife. His life goes on and he meets a man Franz with whom he has his first gay encounter. Immediately he falls in love but Franz is not interested. His literal words are "You have a husband’s eyes. I don’t want to be a wife." I was a bit weirded out after seeing this film. I am not sure I appreciate or support the idea of relationship that this film focussed on, but then I think we need to look at a film independently of our thoughts. So that’s exactly what I am going to do here. The makers talked about how the film is about the fact that sex and power are intertwined and they co-exist. I do agree with the statement but I am sure there are other better ways to show this rather than this highly provocative and controversial drama. What was this movie? A thriller, ode to friendship, love or about love for dolphins? I am still asking this question to myself. I mean its ok when people throw in multiple themes to a film but they are somehow inter-related but here the thriller and dolphins have nothing to do with each other. Eddie lives with his family and shares passion for romantic sagas like his mom. His father hates him for being sissy and acting like girls. He wants Eddie to be more manly.
