Ming arrives in Australia to mourn her late son Yao. She embarks on a road trip with Eric, who she learns was in a romantic relationship with him, which challenges her conservative Chinese values. Their journey takes them through rural Victoria - where Ming scatters sand from Yao's hometown across the last places he travelled - eventually finding a shared language in their suffering. Beautiful, almost silent film.
The film is about one man's balancing act between his love of football and his love of voguing. Torn between what seems like two completely different worlds, he struggles with considering his future in the sport. When an important opportunity opens up, he has to consider what the sport and his safety means to him.
After losing his partner, Noel, a devastated Ted Brown questions the impact of his activism and struggles to mount a new campaign. Can Ted find the strength for one last fight for LGBTQ+ rights? This short documentary is a moving testament to the couple's 50-year love story and an eye-opening account of the abuse some LGBTQ+ elders face in care facilities.
The film centers on being a queer Palestinian, but politicizes it not only on a representational level, but also through form. Silence, framing, and light choices, all convey the character’s struggle for existence beyond the limits of language. Shadi had a gay relationship with his best friend and neighbor and now is being blackmailed by Israeli forces. Hi family now has two choices; either collaborate with the Israeli occupation or be shamed and humiliated by their own people. Beautiful film!
What are the rules for an open lesbian relationship? When Dani tells Jess she might be interested in sleeping with guys again, it doesn’t go down too well. F**KED raises the question many of us secretly ask ourselves - have I really explored and enjoyed my own sexuality? There’s something about hitting 30 that makes you question whether you’re really being true to yourself.
Arthur is a carpenter who leads a quiet life in rural Wales. One day while having coffee he hears about Grindr app on smart phones where he can likely meet folks. This new device that will change his life forever. This Welsh language film has a simple story but treatment here has been done in quite a funny manner.
Set in the Italian countryside, young and handsome Alfredo returns home after a long time along with his partner Mattia, an African American man. After meeting Alfredo's grandmother, the pair go to see Alfredo's father who is a butcher. Alfredo must break the news to his old-fashioned father about his secret. Little did he know his secret will churn into a series of unexpected comic events. And no the secret is not that Alfredo is gay. What a hilarious twist, but thistongue-in-cheek comedy runs parallels alongside on the choices we make.
A short film based on David Leddick's bestselling book on the same topic, which chronicles the depiction of the male nude as an art form from the inception of photography in the 1840s down to the present day. Many famous photographers' works are featured. It starts off well with history of how photographing nude men started, how it was illegal to circulate in US and how eventually the courts rejected the idea that male nudes were erotic, but after about 10-12 minutes, it does start to feel boring.
We meet a lot of strangers, or groups of strangers, meeting up at a late night hamburger shop. Just like we've all experienced. Starts with a group of gay friends having a laugh returning from bar, two girls with one of them pissed off at her boyfriend, visitors from Northern Ireland. A short film giving us glimpses of various different personas in a funny and exciting setup making it feel like an everyday event.
This animated short film follows housemates Tilly, Luke and Bridie as they bamboozle their way through a trippy inner west kaleidoscope of blind dates, trendy pubs, casual hookups, gynecologist appointments gone wrong and a bunch of other psychedelic encounters. One of the guests is gay and he meets his crush and they go on a date. Rest of the film was a big bore for me.
The coming of age of Bram, a young boy navigating growing up with his best friend amidst complex feelings and sexual discovery. What a beautiful and visually stunning silent film! This is absolutely gorgeous and without saying a word, the film says so much. The background music was so good. I would highly recommend watching this film.
The premise is simple. A gay couple brings in an AI robot to spice up their life. They make rules but one of them starts to break the rules and enjoy the robot Jamal more than what they decided. When the partner sees that, it angers hi and he gets violent towards Jamaal, who attacks them both sensing danger. An interesting (though not very well directed) short film about pros and cons of where technology is headed.
This short film tells the story of Cristina, a trans Honduran-American woman who, after years apart, finally finds her mother, Alma. As she grapples with the uncertainty of their reunion, she is confronted by tumultuous memories of her past and the fact that she might not be what her mother is expecting. A beautiful directed film with a lot of emotion.
Ali receives a call from his ex-lover Zain after three years, sparking memories of the night they first met, moving between past intimacy and present solitude, love and regret. It was fascinating to see a queer short story from the country. Things are not very in your face, but it's a slow, poetic "could have been love story" kinda treatment.
Two women fall in love at a decrepit old-age home in the autumn of their lives. Both are aware of the repercussions of such a revelation in a society proscribing homosexuality; therefore, they exchange messages and gifts in secret. As the romance blossoms, flourishes, and spreads through the worn-out walls and somber milieu, Indira subtly conveys to Meera that her imposing requests can be detrimental to their relationship. I dont watch too much lesbian content, but this was heartwarming.
Finally, Tom and his partner Marcel have moved into their first apartment together. They could be happy at last. They hear strange noises from a door joining the next apartment. All attempts to lock the door fail, and they realize their neighbor is Adolf Hitler who won't leave them in peace. Tom's trust in Marcel and in a new home together is shattered. And Tom has to face the door to the right alone. A queer horror movie about the fear of right-wing extremism, where many a times fear suddenly creeps up on queer people.
A late-blooming Trans woman reluctantly confronts an assigned-male-at-birth Trans specific and life-altering dilemma. With the help of her besties, she attempts to process this debacle in order to determine which path to take on her journey to decolonize her womanhood. I wasn't much impressed by it honestly.
Yen, a young man with cerebral palsy, longs for both romance and a body like his caregiver Suriya´s, while his overprotective mother harbors complex feelings for Suriya. As tensions rise, Yen starts to believe his body is no longer the same. A very interesting and unique story, done well.
Fr. Brennan has been acting rather strange lately, and who better than Man of the Year Richard Hennessy to whip the naïve parish priest into shape? They are having a secret affair where the local handsome man is worried that with father's sudden effeminate behavior, their secret will come out. I think, this film could have been developed a little better.
A Scout patrol stays in a remote village in the Drôme region to perform the Crucifixion of Jesus. Nothing can divert 17-year-old Karim, the Scout who has in charge the role of Christ, from his obsessive goal: to find the ecstasy to interpret the martyrdom on the cross. It's not really gay but told from a friend's male gaze. Funny but I wish there was something more.
This thoughtfully constructed story revolves around a Muslim community, specifically an imam called Mustafa who must face some social complexities when a trans man acts as the titular witness to a Nikah – the Muslim wedding ceremony. Things get quite distressing when we’re confronted with the prejudice and transphobia present in religion. The imam must choose between upholding the values of his mosque or protecting the safety and spiritual belonging of a trans man congregant.
