I did not realize that we can have a film of the same name that was released merely a year ag. I guess the rules are different in different countries. Anyway, here we are again with a film of same name, albeit, this time it is a horror/slasher genre unlike the gay romantic one that came out earlier. That said this slasher/cheesy film is just not worth your time. It is not bad, but it is just boring. I mean when you are not able to connect with any character and you don't even care if they get murdered, then clearly a lot is missing here.
The story is about a straight couple, a lesbian couple and their single gay friend Troy going to Fire Island for the weekend. Troy's boyfriend recently committed suicide and since then he has been in sort of depression, so this trip is also to help him cheer up. Slowly murders start to happen on the island. First we see one of the guys in a long term gay relationship gets killed, then it's the straight couple who was visiting and soon one of the girls of the lesbian couple. Of course between all this, we will all these folks trying to make sense of life and of course of Fire Island. Eventually Troy and his best friend are running for life because cops cannot find the perpetrator. Eventually the killer kills the last girl and also the cop investigating but magically Troy manages to escape after the identity is revealed.
This film makes no sense at all. The big secret of the killer can be seen when the guy is shown hanging out in a bar eye-ing Troy. I t was a direct giveaway, but here I was curious about 'why' the murder. Even that was so underwhelming that I couldn't believe the reasoning. It really was just about someone "driven crazy" by isolation and murdering people. There was no connection between the murder of a girl that with which the film starts or the murder of the older gay couple or why specifically this group of friends. Also, if anyone has been on Fire Island, the island is never so deserted. I think this movie had potential to be better than it was, primarily because of the ending and the reveal of the killer. It was pretty obvious and the reasoning was ludicrous. I think if they had come up with a better plot and motivation for the killer I would have upped the rating. The film is neither scary nor flashy horror or not even comedy. Also to be honest, just because of the setting of the Fire Island, it falls in gay genre, but this film, IMO, doesn't even fall in LGBT category. The story was ok but screenplay is just bad. Acting was just ok and it felt like someone's pet project rather than an attempt to make something meaningful. I honestly can't think of one redeeming quality that this film possess. The only way this film can be seen is when you are super drunk and want to laugh at the absurdity of the whole thing. (2/10)
