Light Up (Documentary)

Light Up  is an intimate documentary that focuses on the lives of five people in Atlanta—four Black gay men and one Black transgender woman. It’s a really personal look at their backstories and how they’ve dealt with prejudice and mental health struggles because they felt they had to hide who they truly were. The big thing they all share is that every person interviewed has found a way to push through those hard times. Now, they're all at a place where they feel totally comfortable being themselves and speaking their truth. The five people sharing their journeys are Simone Tisci, Derek Jae, Octavius Terry, Obio Jones, and Benjamin Carlton. Derek Jae is already pretty well-known from reality TV, while Simone Tisci is a successful makeup artist who is now working on breaking into acting. The primary concept of this movie is that a woman introduces her boyfriend to her gay friends and that makes him gay--is just sketched at. Essentially, we're observing her friends and their friends and their various respective lovers as they interact. It goes through 6 different people, their lives and interactions. Harry hates being a TV producer and dreams of leaving his job to travel the world. He loves Alex, an aspiring actor who is struggling to create an identity for himself as a performer. Alex lives with Harry who takes care of him. He is yet to find out that he sucks at acting but he is a very very good cook. Rugby player William's nine-year-old daughter is intent on sabotaging his relationships with new boyfriends. She thinks when a new man enters her dad's life, her importance will reduce. This prevents William to let Lawrence get into his life. Lawrence is a famous TV soap star whom Alex hates. Harry and William are friends. Their 3rd friend is Tom, a not so good looking but a very very successful artist. He keeps Lars who is very handsome who is in the relationship just because of money. Tom is so pathetic that he will excuse his every betrayal so long as Lars doesn't leave him. This despite when Lars tries to make an attempt on Harry too. This brings Harry and Alex to revaluate their relationship. When Alex moves out, he realizes that being a cook gives him more satisfaction. He and Harry get close once again but now Alex feels grown up and wants to be by himself and not someone else take care of him. Harry realizes that it is now time for him to travel the world. On the other hand, by continuous trials, William is successfully able to get a balance with Lawrence and his daughter, Lars leaves Tom who now keeps a new man. Sometime British films specially gay can be as trash as American films. The only difference being that at least the men are good looking. Again the film looked more episodic and TV serial type. Some of the scenes with Alex and his family were the fun parts of the film. Alex's character after a point got very annoying because of his constant talking. Just an alright film. Have seen worse. (4.5/10)

When opening this film made me think the story should have been told from the girls point of view how she knows all of her gay friends and so on. But it does not its told like a normal movie. Which makes it a little odd. After the start you learn about the characters there seems to be a good story line running moving towards a big conflict however at that rise of the conflict I never really felt anything got solved. What happened to the sketch?, Did the actor become an actor? Overall it was an okay story but not one I feel I need to own. Thank you LOGO channel for letting me watch it without having to buy it.

Apparently tis film was adapted by a true story Well, true or not, movies/series about drugs are not easy to watch. I have always said that drugs is like the end of life for anyone. Every person has their own unique way of dealing with loss. This film is as much a psychological thriller as it is a soft porn BDSM portrayal of two young men that makes the film overall horrifying as well as humane. It is really hard to describe the genre of this film in one word. Its important not that the film has some really disturbing scenes so if you go into seeing this film, please proceed with caution. Although any sexual non-consensual activity is not ok, this film has its won strange way of showing that suicide is not the only solution to all life's problems. Makoto is a regular office goer, who just finds out that his girlfriend is probably cheating on him. ON top of it, his parents sudden death coming back from a trip that he forced them to take, he gets completely dejected and decides to commit suicide. The Shortest Distance is Round 3: Fallen Flowers

Continuing with the weird trilogy of "The Shortest Distance", I am so glad that finally I am done with part 3 and won't have to deal with this again in future. Thankfully, as of now the makers have not announced any further parts; which will save all of us on this earth from the embarrassment of watching this in near future. After the first 10 minutes are used in sort of recapping bits of first two parts, the story moves forward. Haruto is now starting to have feelings for Ruka, the mysterious pole dancer from second part. In a fit of rage, Ruka ends up killing the goat man and to save him and Haruto, Shibahara asks them to go underground. Meanwhile Shibahara continues the search for Seiya (the guy who had cut off Haruto's penis). It turns out Seiya is now also taking care of the original club owner from part 1.
