This show is a bit of a weird mix, blending old-school folklore with a modern-day BL setting. It feels like it’s trying to be both ancient and contemporary at the same time. I have to admit, the first four or five episodes really pulled me in, but unfortunately, I just couldn't stay interested as it went on. The whole supernatural plot and the folk story elements got pretty confusing after a while. Luckily, the funny back-and-forth between the characters was enough to keep me watching. The series tries to draw parallels to the legend of Bi-hyung, the Goblin King, but since I don't really know that story, I'm not even going to try to explain it. Altogether, it’s 12 episodes, and each one is about 25 to 30 minutes long. The story kicks off with Geum Bok, a guy from the countryside who moves to the big city because he wants to be an actor, but he immediately gets scammed out of his apartment. He’s stuck sleeping on the streets until he has a random run-in with a stranger who p...
After having read mostly positive reviews about this film, I had a little bit expectations from this movie but I must say that I found this film very boring and totally out of context at various places. A lot of actions of various people have no justifications.
Pip leaves home after his brother dies in a car accident because of his father who was mad since his brother came out of closet and confessed he is gay. He hates his father ow. On his eighteenth birthday he receives his grandfather's Second World War memoirs on audio cassette, a gift that awakens the ghost of the long lost world. His grandfather relates the story of the day he turned eighteen, fleeing German forces through the woods of France with a dying comrade hanging on for life. In Pip's own and contemporary way, he begins to live the parallel life of his grandfather, both lost in their environments and generations. Along Pip's path he stumbles into an unlikely alliance with Clark, a gay street hustler on the make, and Jenny, an aspiring social worker who tempts Pip with feelings of love and domesticity. He also forges a small but important relationship with a local priest. His relationship with Jenny takes a turn when she suddenly becomes pregnant. Freaking out initially, he soon realizes that despite what his father did, he can and will try to be a good father.
Pip was alright. An 18 year old taking al these responsibilities and living alone sounds a little over the top. Plus his gay friend Clark's character is not very defined. Why does he hustle, why does he suddenly wanna be friends with Pip and then equally suddenly starts loving the gas station guy. Acting was decent and still there was nothing in the movie to hold my attention.
Not my cup of tea. (3/10)
