Cute and lighthearted, My Blessing adds a fun supernatural twist to a short love story. With just about an hour of duration, the production of this made for TV film is quite basic. Although it does feel like you have just watched one episode of one of those Thai series with long-ish episodes. Thankfully this is a film that just ends after one. Despite the charming actors, the plot of the film is patchy, full of plot holes where things haven't been explained properly and similar like that. I do remember reading when the film started that this was made as a university project, so at least from that perspective, I am willing to be a little lenient.
Naina, a university student desperately wants to find a girlfriend and be in a relationship. But no girl even looks at him. His best friend Ton tries his best to cheer him up. They both then visit a mystical tree to offer their prayers, since there is a legend in the campus that those who make an offering, their wishes will come true. When Nina sleeps that night, in his dreams he sees a spirit and he believes that its an angel who's come to bless him. Can introduces himself and says he can grant him 3 wishes. For his first wish, Naina hopes to become better-looking. Cen fulfills his desires by granting him a new wardrobe and a stylish makeover. He starts to get popular. For his second wish, although Naina asks for someone to love him, Cen suggest himself to boost his confidence and asks him to participate in a dance competition, which he eventually wins and of course now has plenty girls after him. As Naina becomes popular, Sen felt neglected and disappears for a few days. Naina tries to summon him a few times in his sleep but it never happens. Finally Can appears again and tells him that he is no angel. He is just a wandering soul and he fell in love with Naina and hence was here to help. The duo make love (not sure how it works in the dream world). They build a close bond and finally Can gets his salvation.
Even though the film is light hearted, there were glaring issues in it screenplay. The ideas haven't been flushed out properly, which to be honest, given it's a college project, it is ok. There are inconsistencies around the events, the whole idea of a human and a ghost meeting online dreams and still everything just working out wonders for Naina is a bit too much to believe in. The one good thing about the show it the guy playing ghost. He is very cute. Both him and Naina are decent actors and they shared a palpable chemistry. Naina is goofy and perky and energetic and it shows. Cen maintains a mysterious allure on how he really is. introduces a clever twist near the end. Surprisingly, Naina's final wish doesn't play out as you may have guessed. The plot could've kept it simple and opted for a happy, carefree ending. Instead, it has a sad conclusion and emphasizes a poignant philosophy about love. Overall, in my opinion, it was just a very basic movie, made at a modest budget and it is surely to get lost in th plethora of Asian BL stuff being thrown at us. (5/10)
