The Ex-Morning (Thai Series)

Just the other day I was thinking of SOTUS series and how I never saw the two lead actors from that show again! And it was funny when I started watching the show, to my surprise, here comes the two leads on this brand new BL series from the good old production company. The show never really offers anything new or ground breaking but I believe that the idea here was to bank on the nostalgia and appeal of one of the beloved couples from back in the day. The average show, makes up for it by a very fun last episodes where they show some traditions from Thai culture of a very dreamy wedding. The show is 10 episodes of 45 minutes each. Phi is a well-known weather anchor on a TV show. However, he faces public disgrace after a live broadcast where he throws coffee at a colleague. His reputation suffers, and he gets suspended from his show. To save his career, Phi must work with a new producer, who happens to be his ex-boyfriend, Tam. Tam is calm and professional, having studied media abroad. T...

Pit Babe: Season 2 (Thai Series)

So I was definitely not the biggest fan of the series when it came. I remember it getting excellent reviews around sleek production, money spent, racing cars and what not, but somewhere I felt with too many characters, the overall plot was too convoluted. Sadly even in second season, the problem persists. There are way too many characters, each of them have some story in parallel going on. The plot points start to get repetitive, the pace is slow and almost all over the place and the misunderstandings between main couple were just to much to sit through. With 13 episodes, each of 50-60 minutes, it's not like it doesn't ask for your time. It is a significant time investment and sadly the return is not at all satisfactory. Babe and Charlie are now in a committed relationship and they are still surrounded by a plethora of friends and colleagues. Babe still races and is top of the game. However a new boy Willy arrives and soon becomes a threat to Babe. For some reason, he also majo...

Knock Out (Thai Series)

The backdrop of the show is quite interesting. A whole BL series centered around boxing is not easy to make, so kudos for that. The problem is that the things strata to get repetitive very soon. Problem arise, someone fixes it, there is amount of happiness and the craziness starts again with one more layer of bad guys now joining in. It happens multiple times with our lead couple always at the center of it all. Also, another problem is that there are way too many characters to keep your focus on and they keep coming in. So, for a series that started off quite well. I found myself losing interest by the time 6 episodes were done and then I just wanted it to end sooner than later. The show has 12 episodes plus one special of about 50-65 minutes duration. Keen is a young boy who suddenly loses his cop father in a mysterious death. Left alone, his father's friend offers shelter in his boxing club. Loan sharks are after his life and they wont leave him alone, so he has no choice but to ...

My Sweetheart Jom (Thai Series)

‘My Sweetheart Jom’ is essentially a light comedy, featuring caricature-like villains and a slow-burn love story, with the community spirit and the silly shenanigans of its younger characters driving the plot forward. Despite its occasional charm and two very charming leads, the show tries to juggle too many plots all at once and letting some of the down. It feels like the show was supposed to be your classic love story, but some plots were introduced, some characters were forgotten, while the episodes duration kept getting stretched. The show has 12 episodes and each episode is like 75 to 90 minutes and a couple of them even longer. There is a lot going on here and s much of it could have been easily edited out. City boy Yo, who is now 19, did not finish 12th grade because of some drama. His girlfriend was also being pursued by a politicians son and they have a fight, so his parents send him to a rural village as an ultimatum to finish his high school. If he doesn't do that, he do...

My Stubborn (Thai Series)

This series is a classic case of likely the makers realizing that sex sells even in BL stories. Enough of this high school love and romance, we need to throw in more kisses and lot of hot bodies and sex and we will have a winner on our hands. Honestly this is what I feel the conversation must have gone when this show was being greenlit. 12 episodes of 50-60 minutes each, the story just keeps going in circles for no reason at all. I am honestly baffled at why these Thai film makers still insist on longer duration of episodes. Almost 80% of the narrative includes unhindered & unapologetic sex scenes between the main leads. I’m yet to find an episode where they weren’t kissing or having a full-blown sex session. Let's try to summarize the story if I can. Show starts with this guy Sorn jerking off in a public place. A younger boy Jun is watching him and Sorn watches him. But he then says that "hey I see you are hard, let me teach you and kiss you " and the young boy gives...

The Bangkok Boy (Thai Series)

I wouldn't call this series as a typical BL. This was actually a classic gang/revenge story between 2-3 underworld clans and just bit of romance thrown between the lead guy and the other boy. It was never developed, was never the focus. With 12 episodes each of about 55 minutes, I went into the show hoping for a gay love story, but I was disappointed. Having said that, if you watch the show for the grit and novel story that it says, it is actually quite good. But it's all about managing your expectations. Even this poster is soooo misleading. The plot centers on a young man named Sun, who is the son of a benevolent gang leader. After his father and best friend, Kong, are tragically murdered, Sun is wrongly accused and sent to prison. Once he is released, he works to expand his power and uncover the truth behind the deaths of his loved ones, his life becomes intertwined with Peach, a sensitive Korean artist. Unbeknownst to Sun, Peach is the son of the rival Korean gang leader, M...

Winter Is Not The Death Of Summer But The Birth Of Spring (Thai Series)

Full marks for novelty to set a BL romance in a Thai prison. This gritty environment allows the series to explore meaningful themes. Sadly the screenplay and the execution is so jarring and random and sudden that half the time it doesn't make any sense. Apparently this was released as a 20 episode series , but the version I saw was 5 episodes where first 4 were 30-40 minutes each and the last one was 80 minutes. Jed owes a lot of money to people (we are later told he borrowed money for making a film), so he gets arrested. Even though he spends just one night in jail, it's his first time in such an environment. He's crammed into a tiny cell with numerous other inmates. Bible, a young prisoner on volunteer duty, is tasked with guiding new inmates. He somehow takes a liking for Jed and protects that first night from getting bullied. Jed gets bail next morning and Bible asks him to never come back again. Three months later his cheque fraud eventually lands him in a longer priso...

I Promise I Will Come Back (Thai Series)

Even though a good part of this series set in Northern Thailand was about promoting tourism, but the way it was incorporate din the larger storytelling and a beautiful love story, it did not feel like watching a tourism advertisement (which happens sometimes). The locations and sites were so seamlessly integrated, that most f the times you were either engrossed in the beauty of it all and other times in the romance that was developing in front of you. So overall I quite enjoyed this series about first love and its loss of 8 episodes, each of 45-50 minutes. Tontae and Nankrai have been best friend since they were little. From the very first episode we realize that Nankrai has much deeper feelings of love towards Tontae but he is completely oblivious of his gazes and stares and love and sees the former just as a very close friend. Tontine dreams of traveling the world someday. Since Tontae has understanding of English, he is requested to accompany a Taiwanese visitor Victor to their vill...

Boys In Love (Thai Series)

We have a yet another high school teenage romance BL. You will not find anything much different here than what we have already seen numerous times, but the good and refreshing part about this is that there I son forced drama. This is more like a feel good romantic teen story focusing on various couple and depending on their individual situation how they fall in love, manage love and their insecurities. The first half of the show follow on these and in last 2-3 episodes the focus shifts on future universities, what happens to love and friends and life in general. The series is 12 episodes of about 45 minutes each roughly. Since we have multiple couples here. That is how I am going to review. First we have Shane and Kit. Shane is a hardworking student looking for scholarship for further studies. His teacher makes him tutor a student Kit who has been failing in Maths and that he can make some good money. Their initial few sessions are nothing but chaos since Shane is full of fears and ins...

Mission To The Moon (Thai Series)

This was an interesting series in the sense it was hard to like it or dislike it. The story is really barely there and s just paper thin, but look at the guts of the makers that they decided to convert this into 30 episodes each of about 8 minutes to keep the viewers hooked a few days a week to wait for what would happen next. Thankfully, as always I saw it when the whole thing was out.  It is the story of two worlds. Navee is a young man who works at a radio station. At the halloween party, another man dressed in traditional royal clothes catches his attention but disappears. The same guy starts showing up as a ghost at his apartment at regular intervals scaring Navee. Navee tries making offerings and prayers but nothing helps, so he eventually gives in. The man tells him that he is a prince from 2000 years ago and he has not crossed over and it would happen only when Navee remembers everything. Slowly love Strats Tod develop between the two in this world and in small fragments, N...

Loy Kaew First Love (Thai Series)

Exploring the romantic relationship between two childhood friends, Loy and Kaew, this series features themes of forbidden love, social class differences, and the struggle against prejudice in rural backdrop in Thailand countryside.Unfortunately there are way too many characters and a very soap opera kinda feeling and direction made this show a bit boring for me. The series is 6 episodes of about 40 minutes each. Loy, is a kind hearted son of a widow, whose father died and they have big loan to pay and then we have Kaew, who comes from a more nobler family. The setting is rural Thailand where farming is the way of life. The dup have been extremely close friends since they were kids. Both are strikingly handsome, natural leaders & pillars of the community, and are desirable by a lot of eligible females in this rather small community. One day they kiss each other (happens in the very first episode) but the leaves both of them confused. A few days later it happens again and they realiz...

Eye Contact (Thai Series)

This show should be avoided completely. Firstly, the show is clearly left midway after 6 episodes. There is no proper conclusion and as audience we are left with a lot of questions. I read online, that the makers did not pay the actors because of which they left the show midway and hence the so called 'incomplete' show. Which Actually might be a blessing in disguise, because the acting and direction of this show were so ridiculously bad. But then you never know, the makers may hire a new crew and make season 2 for all you know. For now this series was 6 episodes of 50 minutes each. Nerdy student Nu is told by an astrologer that once he encounters three mishaps, he will find a sexy hot man as love of his life. While walking to college, he is almost hit by Sun who was driving his car. Sun a second year medical student. Once he goes to college, he meets Chain, a senior on his faculty who seems to like Nu. Since Nu is a nerd, he is unable to make many friends, and Chain introduces ...

Sweet Tooth, Good Dentist (Thai Series)

Yet another of those overtly sweet college level drama with a hint of humor. It was a good change from the recent heavy dramas I have seen but having said that, the story here is barely there. It is filled with every regular BL trope imaginable. The series has 11 episodes each of about 40-45 minutes. The main story is between Sant and Jay, and of course there comes a third wheel and other situations. Sant is a college student who was raised by his grandparents. With his best friend, he runs a food channel. He has a sweet tooth and his tooth had been hurting a lot. So he goes to meet dentist Jay, but he has some kind of phobia (we later learn that his parents abandoned him at the dentist office). Jay takes a liking for Sant and starts to encourage him and get him out of his fear to finally take care of his teeth. But in the process Jay also falls for Sant and starts to pursue him. Enter Jimmy, an old friend of Jay, who now runs a cafe, where Sant joins as a part-timer, and sparks fly be...

My Golden Blood (Thai Series)

When I heard that this show is about vampires, my first thought was that this is going to be like a Thai Twilight kinds thing with a BL twist. Honestly I have not seen Twilight movies, so I don't even know what I was really thinking. But with the typical BL tropes and campiness full of some vampires tropes (based on convenience), it was mildly entertaining. I will give all marks for coming up with a novel script and most importantly having just one BL couple. I am so tired with almost every series bringing in 2-3 more couples towards the second half just for the sake fit. This series has 12 episodes of 50-60 minutes each. Tong and his friend Tonkla have grown up in an orphanage. Tong was told he is sick and is beer allowed to play otherwise he could bleed which will not be good for him. Truth is his blood is what's called 'Golden Blood' in vampire lingo. More on that later. When he and Tonkla move to city for further studies, one day Tong takes up job of a waiter at an ...

Ossan's Love Thailand (Thai Series)

The original Japanese shows has to be one of my fav BL shows. Then came the Hong Kong version which was equally good. Sadly the same cannot be said about the Thai remake of this cult classic. This version is missing the humanity and the heart that was key ingredient of the original Japanese version. Most importantly, it had authenticity sprinkled with humor, grace, and tons of human emotions. Sadly neither the production, nor the actors do justice here. The makers have slightly modified the story also, but even if they kept it all same, not much would have changed. 12 episodes each of about 50 minutes. The story is similar. Heng is our main character who works in real estate company. His Boss has been secretly crushing on him, but he has no idea. At the same time, another office employee Mo likes him. Apparently many years back when Mo started in the company, Heng really helped him out. Monday is looking for a place to move in, so Heng invites him to stay with him. In return, Mo can co...

Top Form (Thai Series)

Adapted from a Japanese manga, this apparently toned down version, is a quintessential love story in my opinion. What lengths would you go to when challenges come in between love and your work and how do you balance the two is wonderfully shown in this series. Subtextually there is a lot going on in the series (base din the film world showing all kinds of differences, and rivalries), the show tries to remain focused more on the love, which can be good or bad. With 11 episodes, each of about 45-55 minutes, the shows ends teasing us the possibility of a second season. Akin is a famous star actor and a celebrity. He has winning the sexiest man award for few years in a row and is trembly popular. Enter Jin, a newbie whose first small role is with Akin. He is a wooden actor but after giving a few bad shots, Akin gives him some tips and soon he is nailing the scene. Their first show gets popular and soon the duo are cast together in a historical adaptation. This is where the love story betwe...

PorschArm The Wedding (Thai Reality Series)

Watching a reality series focusing on a gay wedding is not really my cup of tea, but then I Amin a zone where I am watching as much varied gay content as I can these days and for some reason Thailand is churning out  gay content like its no one else's business. So here we are - A reality show where we witness a gay couple finally getting married after almost 10 years of being engaged, they can legally get married after Thailand became the first Southeast Asian country to legalize same-sex marriage, along with full adoption rights, rights related to inheritance, health care decision-making, and more in 2024. The show is 5 episodes of about 30 min each. Porsch is a flight attendant and an actor. Arm is a social media influencer, a YouTuber with a huge following. Porsche initially proposed to Arm in 2014, six years after their relationship began. And with the legalization of same-sex marriage in Thailand, they decided that they will get married. This reality series focuses on the time...

The Boy Next World (Thai Series)

Aah! This series would have been so much better if it stayed true to the concept it introduces us about 'parallel worlds'. Instead, they take audiences for granted and fool us into thinking one thing and then very conveniently squashing the whole idea to make it yet another love story which then has absolutely nothing to offer. The parallel world concept is what would have made the show stronger. A good premise ends up being a mess. With 10 episodes plus one special episode each of 55-60 minutes long, it's not like it's a quick watch. You spend all this time only to feel cheated was not good. Our characters are Cir and Phu. Cir meets with an accident and in hospital. When he wakes up, he is frantically looking for someone called Phu and shows up at his dorm. Phu has no idea who Cir is. But Cir seems to know a great deal about him. He says he is from a parallel universe where Phu and Cir are boyfriends and are together. Phu dismisses the whole idea and then Cir shares in...

Gel Boys (Thai Series)

Oh my!! This series shows teen angst in such detail and deep, especially in today's world of social media and TikTok; being a teenager is something I absolutely do not miss. Remember the days, when you don't know if your crush likes you back or not, or you wait for hours to hear a response back to your message. To not have to second-guess and burn in your own self-imagined hell of rejection, before even a confession can be made. All this and more is shown frustratingly well in this series. Although you feel like shaking these teenagers every time they do something stupid, because it's like A likes B, who likes C, but C likes D, and D likes A while some of these are close friends too. This is a royal teen mess, sometimes in the truest sense of way. 7 episodes each about an hour or longer.  We have four main characters here. Fou4Mod starts to crush onhis senior Chian since he sees him at the train station. The two start bond by getting their nails done together, however, Chia...

ThamePo: Heart That Skips a Beat (Thai Series)

It seems like everyone is loving this show and is going almost crazy about it. We will get to what I think, a bit later. But I do have to say that the makers have really taken the production quality quite a few steps high with this show. The cinematography and visuals are top tier, they have focused on music and choreography (given the central theme is about 5 boys in a band) and have not taken any thing lightly. I am not sure of any of the actors are real life singers as well, but I am going to try to review this series as objectively as possible. The show is 13 episodes and thankfully all episodes are about 45 minutes, which was a welcome change after the last few shows which all seem to be hovering at about an hour duration each. Po, a young photographer is lost in life. His ex used him, draining his talent and then left him. He does odd jobs here and there to keep afloat. So when a friend offers him a dream job—capturing the final moments of the beloved T-pop band MARS before they ...
