"Herec," which means 'Actor' is a compelling portrayal of a young gay actor navigating the oppressive regime of early communist Czechoslovakia. It shows how he is used by various people for their benefits focusing on the realistic depiction of the political pressures faced by artists during that era, particularly the forced use of actors as spies for the state. The miniseries is a study of human character and acting in extreme situations where the question of the hero's morality and behaviour is far from clear. This three part series is a gripping thriller, where each episode is 70-90 minutes long. TBH, To Be Honest, is NOT a gay web series. This has a very strong gay sub-plot but the show is mostly about teenage sin a high school and what happens in the aftermath of a shooting in one of the high schools in Brno, where the rules bordering on bullying are set by members of a floor hockey team and their groupies, a girl gang called Bitchez. In ten episodes, Czech Television’ s first original streaming series tells the story of searching for boundaries in the painful world of being a teenager, during a time of manipulative social media. The series has 10 episodes which run from 11 to 15 and a half minutes each In a high school, one day a stranger arrives shooting at students. Maja is an activist who live-streamed her fight for survival and now must deal with the resulting sudden internet fame. This survival drama unexpectedly turns out to be a much better film than I thought it would be. The pacing is a bit slow and it's probably a little bit longer than it needed to be, but it's nice to see a gay movie about something other than whether or not two people are going to have sex. More on that in the detailed review later, but having recently seen that Thai cave rescue drama, I could feel a similar tension here in the film as well. We meet our two lead characters. To be honest I would not have reviewed this film on my blog, because according to my definition the sis not a queer film. Its a biography of a man who happened to be a gay and his sexuality is touched upon in the film but that's not the focus. BUT then I realized that the film played in a few LGBTQ film festivals, so I decided to put it down here. This is the story of Jan Mikolášek, a faith and herbal healer (and not a doctor by his own admission). He could diagnose anyone's condition by just looking at their urine sample and treat them with herbs and plants. The setting is post war Europe, so you see the diseases spread throughout. The film is seen in multiple flashbacks starting with death of Czech president who also was apparently treated by Jan Mikolášek. This is clearly a gay erotica film, whose whole intent is to seduce the audience with its simulated sex copulating scenes. The good thing is that the boys are extremely gorgeous and good looking. But besides that there isn't much happening here. A straight couple, Ryan and Issy arrive for their summer vacation at a magnificent beachside villa. This vacation is meant to solve their stormy relationship problems and rekindle the lost flame. One night when Ryan can't sleep, he goes for a walk but gets mobbed and badly beaten only to be rescued by beach boy Pavel. This film portrays the one of the oldest tragedies in the public: Child prostitution. It shows the problems of living on the street, at such young age and how you get exploited. Although this specific documentary focuses on the city of Prague, but I cant imagine the situation being any different in a lot of other places. This graphic film depicts the appalling process by which young prepubescence and teen age boys in Prague are so skillfully lured into the eviscerated life of a male prostitute. This documentary came out in 1996 and interview about 6-8 boys in the age range of 14-17 and their experiences. Each of the boy is asked same questions as to how did they come to Prague, how did they start and why, what are their challenges, issues that they face and the AIDS issue hanging over their head. There was something raw, real,fascinating, natural about this movie that I loved. It was not filmy or made up any away. It was very real, the actors were real, story was real, it was different but nice different. With a completely original story line and direction, this movie is worth a watch. Peter, a gay schoolteacher from from an elite school in capital to tach in the country because he felt dominated by his mother in school. Later we find out that he also broke up with his boyfriend whom he actually never loved. So basically he is trying to run from everything and everyone. Peter who is always depressed soon meets Marie, a farm working widow who has had her troubles in life and her teenage son Lada who is young and beautiful but lives in guilty complex because he thinks he is not smart. He has a girlfriend who comes to visit him every weekend from the city. Together Marie and Lada run a dairy farm. Everyone is frank and open and there is nothing hidden. If you read the synopsis of this movie, it sounds interesting but personally it did not do it for me. There were 2 things that I was not comfortable. It was too dark and after a while I thought it was just being stretched. Mark, a 15 year old village guy runs from him home after his father forces him to go to school. When he reaches Prague, he is followed by a pimp, Honza. Since Mark runs out of money, Honza convinces him to be his rabbit, a male prostitute. His first assignment leaves him beaten and bruised and then he meets a fellow hustler David. Together they form a team, get Hona to prison and start a successful prostitution racket. Hereon the film stats with characters coming in and out and how it affects their life. Each time the life gives them scars that grow more visible as does the threat of drug problems and AIDS.
