Moonlight Amour (Filipino Mini-Series)

OMG!! This show was so bad that it was almost an embarrassment to watch. Please don't ask me why and how I ended up watching this. I do understand that this was likely made with zero budgets , on phone, with friends for YouTube, but then how I came to know about this and spent my time wasting on this is beyond me. Even writing this review feels like an utter waste of time, so I will keep it short. On a bright side, the show was only 4 episodes of about 18 minutes each. It is a confusing story, to be honest. Yohan has some disease and is soon dying. His boyfriend Ace, who is only pretending to be in love with him because it was his dying mother's wish, wants to leave him but thinks he will come out as an asshole to leave him while he is dying. Meanwhile a group of three random friends keep an eye on happenings all around. One of them figures out that the guy dying is actually Yohan's twin Gohan. At some point they switched (yes!! Kill me). This random dud era the real Yohan ...

Combat (French)

Told in three parts, Patrick Carpentier’s “The Irregularity of the tearing” is a three part cine-diary intimate journey along the author’s transient love stories: two and a half years of sensuality to question intimacy, an exploration of desire and reason. Part one, “God is a Dog” (2004) is shot on Super 8 and confronts the film makers remembrances of childhood memories and how they interact with his adult love encounters.  Section two, “Les 9 mardis” (The 9 Tuesdays) (2005) deals with the absurdity of the passage of time. Time that reopens and closes past wounds, time that re-opens and cures childhood wounds, time that brings a rhythm to the impossibility of loving, time that provides the courage to continue and to go through mourning. The final installment is “Combat”asks the viewer: how can one let go in a world where one learns not to? Is it possible to reach the end of desire? The tale of two young men both deeply in love who can only express their feelings through acts of phy...

Vorrei Una Vita (Italian) [I Would Like A Life]

This was such a bad film. The version I saw had bad subtitles, but I bet you that even if they were good, my views on this film would not have changed. This is a prime example of the makers trying to make a very niche indie gay film, but it is so pertain plot, so full of over the top drama, bad acting and bad direction and just all around a bad bad feeling. Francesco is a 4o year old man who lives with his sister after their parent's death. During covid he finds out that his company has closed so he now needs to find a new job. After getting many multiple rejections because of his age (bizarre!), one of his friend gives him an idea to become a male prostitute. Horrified by the idea, he eventually gives in when he needs money. He tells his sister and neighbours lie that he has gotten work in a hotel. One day one of the clients kisses him on lips and that changes Francesco. He suddenly feels a sense of love. Next thing you know this client is taking out Francesco for dates and they a...

Playboy (And The Gang of Cherry) (Thai)

This film was like the Thai version of Japanese pink films. While it may be an erotic movie (which is really obvious), the 'plot' they tried to put in was really bad, and didn't work at all. Honestly, I spend 2 hours watching this movie, and I still have no idea what was actually going on, besides some people almost being murdered and constant sex between multiple of the characters. At least Japanese films are more comprehensible. The story was something like the (I think). Cherry is a bipolar lady who has a gang (in a deserted building) where Playboy and Gold Hair prostitute. James is an drug addict who like works for Cherry. Boy is Cherry's "sex instrument". James, Cherry and Gold Hair are in love with Playboy but Playboy is in love with Boy. James gets tired of Cherry and decides to betray her and free Playboy and himself but Playboy leaves with Boy. At the end, we don't know who finishes dead; James or Cherry. The directing, pacing, plot, script, cinem...

Ever After (Filipino Series)

OK. This is like the lowest of lows when the shows can go. Surely, I have seen a few Filipino shows where the direction and execution was so poor but at least the story still made sense. But with this show, if anyone can tell me what was the plot of this and what really as happening, I would be really really glad. Because, u know what I really tried to keep my attention on this one hoping. That with every next episode, it will slowly make sense, but I was so wrong. And intakes 12 episodes of about 16-18 minutes each to constantly remind you that this series will not make sense how much ever you try. Right in the first episode, way too many characters are thrown at us. Almost 10-12 and we are not sure whom do we need to focus on, because even though they are being introduced, there is really nothing substantial happening. Who are they, who do they like, what is their relationship with one another? I wish they had focused on just 2 characters and made it shorter instead of having so many...

Hey, Happy! (Canada)

I really don't know why I watched this film. More so, why was this film even made! I have no idea what to make of this movie. Should I think of it intellectually as a modern, messed fairytale, or some weird allegory for a degradation in society that fears losing all that it holds dear... No, I think this is just poor cinema, with no sets... little plot that makes any sense, and characters that you can't even remotely care about! DJ Sabu's overactive libido leads him into teenaged pregnancy. His mythic quest for two thousand boys ends with Happy, a paranoid UFO-ologist to whom aliens promise to appear (as his love child). Spanky is an evil hairdresser trying to foil Sabu's mission, he is the self-proclaimed 'biggest bitch in the world.' The action unfolds at a series of raves on old garbage hill in an industrial Antonioni landscape peopled with characters right out of vintage John Waters I will be honest that I have copied the synopsis of this film from imdb. Hav...

A Família do Barulho (Portuguese) [A Noisy Family]

What the fuck was this film. Agreed it came way back in 70s, but even then I don't understand the whole point. It felt more like a collage of random still photographs and video edits some random scenes of kids playing, neighborhood events and just random events happening which are sown together. There is a hint f story which takes up like 15 minutes on the film but the rest 50 odd minutes is just this random montage. If these multiple characters that keep coming in and out are supposed to represent something, well then, this film definitely went all over my head. Shot in just four days, this film is a soap opera about the adventures of a double-dealing from Rio de Janeiro implicated with a strange and confused middle class family. A dysfunctional family, composed of a prostitute and two gays, one strong and the other fragile and stupid, lives a routine life in Rio de Janeiro. The gay couple just fool around and waste the all day, so when the prostitute threatens the other two to st...

Required Field

Todd Verow should just not make films. Just like many of his previous films, this film is an utter waste of timed self indulgence in the name of art. It feels like a random travel vlog with sex scenes thrown in between for good measure. Serial killer ‘NO1KNOWS’ managed to elude the police for years. In fact they didn’t even know he existed until, by chance, his video and audio recordings were found. By examining the recordings police were able to solve a number of murders around the world - although many men featured in the recordings were never found and it is unclear how many other victims there were since most of the video and audio recordings were destroyed (presumedly by NO1KNOWS himself). This film had absolutely nothing to look forward to. Had I not read the synopsis online, I wouldn't even understand what really is going on here. It is classic example of sheer waste of money, resources to waste audience's time. A self made video dear, this is something that the director...

Leçons de Ténèbres (French) [Tenebrae Lessons]

What an absolute bizarre film (or was it a documentary?). The version that I saw either had some really bad subtitles, or it had the kind of English that made absolute no sense to me. It was extremely poetic using words that just didn't make sense together. Given that the film is supposed to be a homoerotic journey through a modern day Caravaggio painting, I'd have to say the dialogues were meant to be artsy. Maybe they make more sense in local language, but in language I ket scratching my head on what really is this film trying to say. The plot as per online resources is this. Set in three geographically distinct chapters that take place in Naples, Utrecht, and Rome, this drama follows the wanderings of a middle-aged man as he mopes his way through the sex clubs, concert halls, bars, and streets of Europe. Voice-over reflections on love, art, and death are abundant.  In a cross between a diary and a baroque play the film reconstructs the fragments of a fateful journey against ...

Can This Be Love? (Filipino Series)

The synopsis says "A romantic comedy series about a young catechist named Caloy and an old transgender named Dora making their way in finding what true love means. Find out how they answered the question, Can This be Love?" I have seen so many bad gay movies/series including Asian BL ones that my skin has become so thick, so when I see another absolute trash, at this point, I can't do anything but just laughs it off. This 7 part, 20 minute each series is as trashy and bad and transphobic as it can get. A young boy Caloy has an interesting love-hate relationship with old trans woman Mamma Dora. The duo along with another friend go to a 'Can It Be Love' resort to help them sell resort since Dora is an agent. The owner, another young boy, shamelessly flirts with Mamma Dora. There are a few other random boys working, living near resort and then another trans female character, a friend of owner, comes to mix it all up while these people try to find love. I dare you all...

Infidèles (English) [Unfaithful]

Although touted as an erotic drama, this film, in my opinion, is nothing but an extended version of a porn film that lasts 90 minutes. Sure the makers can call it an experiment film, or crossing the film making boundaries or an experiment of human desire; nothing can change the underlying factor that this film is nothing but porn. The premise is simple. In an attempt to make a film about the nature of desire, director Claude Pérès invites porn star Marcel Schlütt to have sex with him. They will sleep together while the cameras roll. No contract, no film crew, no boundaries. The end result is a film that challenges viewers to look into the heart of human desire. The makers argue that this is not just porn but an act or experiment of desire and their reasoning is that because they engaged in sensual touching, kissing and stopped to talk about it. So what? That doesn't take away the fact that we see almost 45 minutes of hard core man to man sex. Look, I am not complaining about the se...

Lust Never Lasts (Filipino Mini-Series)

WTF is this show? Like seriously.. It is like written by a 10 year old, directed by a 13  year old and is full of absolutely ridiculous stuff. 5 minutes into the show, and you should be quick to realize what you have signed up for. With 6 episodes of 10 minutes each, this show has got to be the WORST BL I have seen from Philippines and thats country has produced some other really awful shows. It is so badly produced in every way that any meanings or messages are mute The show is about 4 friends and tries to deal with sexuality (bisexuality, trans etc). Alden, the main character just finds out his boyfriend and true love in itersex (in a worst handled sensitive topic).  He also cheated on Johnny with Kim, and at this point I have completely lost interest in what is this show actually trying to say. Screenplay had numerous senseless lines. Aside from incest, problematic stereotypes, not only of bisexuals and intersexuals but other queers, dominated its nauseating screenplay. It'...

Island: The Series (Filipino)

OMG! I don't even know where to begin. Five minutes into it and I knew already that this was going to be bad. Actually calling the show bad is actually being nice to the makers. The series was disastrous and atrocity in ever single department that you can imagine. From story, to location, to acting to direction. Surely this was done by amateurs but amateurs of another level. Sitting through even 5 episodes of 2-30 minutes was a task and for the first time I just gave up after 4th episode. I dint want to know what was really going on, I didn't care who all these random characters were, who kept coming or nothing at all. I just didn't care about any of that. This show was that bad, very confusing, messy, unrealistic plot. I think somewhere in Episode 4 things started to make sense , but by then I was in such a state of bad shock that I had to give up. Different characters of Markus, Drake, Yeah were all starting to become fuzzy and made no sense whatsoever. I couldn't kee...

Oasis (English/Spanish)

You know what's worse than a bad film? The fact that the makers think they they are making some sort of a classic and truly believe that and expects the audience to buy into that bullshit. Even the film is merely 70 minutes in duration, it is already 60 minutes more than the length it actually should be for whatever useless nonsense it is trying to say. Andrew arrives from US to Panama in hopes of reconnecting with an old friend Oliver. They are both married to women, but clearly have some attraction. Andrew shows up unannounced and forces Oliver to go for a boys retreat to a resort. The duo drink and hike and in their conversations we find that clearly Oliver harbors unrequited feelings for Andrew which were dashed when he got married and Andrew even though knowing about it, plays around with his feelings. After ingesting a hallucinogenic drug Andrew purchased called “Oasis”, the plot takes an unexpected turn that leaves the audience marginally intrigued, slightly titillated but a...

The Pink Angels

I am really not sure who was the target audience for this film when it came out. I can see that both gay community and biker gangs taking offense to the horrible stereotyping. Of course, because I am mad enough to put my head through some really bad queer films, I can never explain to myself why do I sit through the endless takes and torturous plot of ridiculous films like this one. A gang of bikers who call themselves Pink Angels riding their motorcycles from northern California to Los Angeles to participate in the Cotillion Ball, which we are told is a big drag event. Along the way we see multiple encounters of them with police hassling them, their fights at a diner, and some other gangs. They meet another bike gang and both of them want to use same picnic spot. I am not sure what really happens, but suddenly some women show up and then the other bike gang members are happy. Th pink Angels put makeup on the straight bikers while they are asleep after party. And in this all, we eep se...

Summer Thunder

This film is a train wreck. I felt angry wasting my time while even reviewing this crap. You read the title and you think oh! Maybe there is gonna be something interesting, but surprise surprise, the film starts bad and it only keeps getting worse with each passing minute. Billy Lee Tucker is an awkward young farm boy whose private parts got severed in a freakish accident. He is a former porn star now reduced to being a fluffer. But when he develops addiction to pain killers and gets out of shape, his career is in the tank. After Billy accidentally injures an actor, he finds himself out of a job altogether -- just in time for his hometown newspaper to run a story commemorating the 20th Anniversary of his accident, which sends a handful of people he'd just as soon never see again on his trail. With the neighborhood pharmacist, Billy is trying to get his life back on track. In between all this, we meet one of his girlfriends, his younger brother an admirer who likes having sex with h...

Mesa Sto Dasos (Greek) [In The Woods]

What a painfully whimsical film and a sheer waste of 90 minutes o fly life. Granted I had to fast forward it on so many levels, but that cannot take away from the fact that this is utter garbage in the name o film making and everything that comes with it. Its not really a gay movie per say, but it is a story of three individuals, who for some reason are spending their time in the forest during which the two men also find some attraction towards each other. Two boys and a girl are trying to become one with nature. They spent all of their time in the woods. There they give free rein to their sexuality, get to know joy and pain, and lick each other's wounds. They walk around, barely speaking a word, do random things and have sex with each other. And that's it. There is nothing more to this film. So anyone who says that the film makers here is trying to give shape to an intense symphony of sensations and desires through his leads is utter nonsense. I mean, how can anyone in their r...

Poo Kor Karn Rai (Thai) [The Terrorists]

Oh damn! What did I just see? Worst of worse experimental films. Its like a collage of random scenes, events with some erotica; all thrown in together without any rhyme or reason. Make a very erotic film poster to lure audience and laugh at their stupidity. Touching on some events of Bangkok in spring 2010. Two men are in a fishing boat talking about catching fish. By night, the rubber plantation also comes across as enticing and full of secrets. And this is when random scenes start filling up your screen. An angry protest in the form of a diary, where sexual resistance and erotic fantasies are juxtaposed with randomness. As a young boy in the 1970s, Thunska was already forced to flee Bangkok for the south with his mother. The film poses questions without knowing the answers, providing an unusual insight into an extremely traumatized society. What makes this so terrible is the amateur direction and lack of coherence or background information, taking audience for granted and assuming th...

Super 8½

Why? Why? Why? Why do makers make such offerings and torture audiences like us. Its almost embarrassing to admit having seen crap like this and spending anyone's precious time in ludicrous crap like this. I am really not sure if this was documentary, mockumentray or an actual drama film! I feel it was like a biographic mocku-drama. Bruce is a  washed-up gay porn star whose story is being exploited by an ambitious indie lesbian filmmaker called Googie. The film is a collage of Googie and Bruce's old films, Googie's current footage of Bruce and interviews with Bruce's former co-stars and lovers. They're all a pretty vain and hopeless bunch and the conversations are really not going anywhere. Also glimpsed are Bruce’s alleged earlier porn epics, which are graphic. Basically the film is almost an hour and half long confrontation between the two characters.  This was an absolute waste of time and efforts. I have read online that how some people actually thought that the ...

Blue Strait

I fail to understand why films like this get made. I mean even if you say that this film is "For people with a very open minded sense of what cinema can be"; it really doesn't give you any right to just make any crap and put it out there. Rather than a film ,it's a montage video where 80% of the video is dedicated to nothingness and long drawn shots of landscapes, which I have no idea represents what in this narrative. The first dialogue and human you see is well after 15 minutes of the start of the film. The entire film (if you can even call it that) is about this older gay couple, who go about their daily life talking about meaningless stuff and also arguing about something (don't ask me what). They bicker about trees and house chores with long camera shots of nothingness. First of all, why would anyone make such a piece of garbage and then why would anyone torture people like me to make us watch crap like this. I was actually cringing big time during this messe...
