Identity Crisis (Documentary)

“Identity Crisis” dives into one of the most polarizing debates of our time: the rise of gender ideology and its impact on children. It takes a critical look at the modern conversation around gender identity, particularly how it's playing out in the lives of young people and their families. Now do I agree with this documentary or representation? 1% yes, largely no and we will see how it plays out. The core of this documentary feels like something based through an Anti Transgender agenda. I would be the first person to say that I don't understand Trans completely but I believe in people having the right choose what they want for themselves. This documentary largely shows us a perspective from the other side. It shows us individuals, parents and families, who did let the individuals go through transition by taking medicine and many cases going through surgery as well. They feel like gender ideology was on such a rise that doctors would force and tell parents if you do not accept ...

Reir, Cantar, Tal Vez Llorar (Spanish) [To Laugh, To Sing, Perchance to Cry]

What the hell did I just see? This one was so damn amateurish that a basic school play put together might be taken more seriously. Right from the script , to fillers, to acting , to direction; almost everything was horrible, except for the basic story idea. The makers had something good on their hands and could have made a poignant love story and show audiences a mirror towards how we perceive immigrants, but OMG! this was atrociously bad. Set in Barcelona, Toni, a trans woman, who works as a hair dresser is looking for love. One day she meets a Moroccan youth 20 year old, trying to hide from the police and she brings him home to help her. She slowly starts to fall in love despite the prying eyes of neighbors who are not very sure of what the arrangement is. Seeing a hot young man, many of her friends and other people at clubs try to hit on the guy but he has eyes for Toni and soon they fall in love. In the midst of this love affair, the days go by: looking for a job, paying the rent, ...

Flirt Milk (Thai Series)

Oh God!1 where do I even begin? This show was so atrocious. There are rarely shows that I have had to stop mid way because they are so bad, this one definitely falls in that category. Firstly, the plot was almost non-existent; but what's worse is that it was executed so badly, with awful acting, cliches, cringe, awkward dialogue, horrible direction, stupid cheesy sound effects; anything horrible and bad that you can think of. Sitting through 10 episodes each of about 45 minutes was nothing less than a torture. Nomjuet, a young man whose personality and life are as dull as his name suggests, joins a photography club. He is mentally and physically not much evolved and feels very timid. This happens to an extent that eve. When two boys are actually interested in him, he has no clue about it. He is iso naive that his best friends guard him fiercely and are extremely overprotective. Chaos ensues when he unexpectedly meets Phra-ek, a junior from the photography club.  Nomjuet accidentall...

Un Prince (French) [A Prince]

I am not sure why this film was made. Featured in Cannes festival, I have too ay that when it comes to experimentation in movies, French are way ahead, but this film remains very much an oblique a non-needed film. Mostly delivered through VoiceOver by various characters, while we see multiple gardening scenes, this film is another great example of film makers taking vanity to another level. Pierre-Joseph is a young man years old when he joins a training center to become a gardener. There he meets Françoise Brown, the director, Alberto, his botany teacher, and Adrien, his employer, all of whom are decisive in his apprenticeship and the discovery of his sexuality. At multiple given opportunities he hooks up with these older men a they are all sort of happy in a commune sorta situation. All this while we keep hearing of this India guy Kutta, born to a French mother, owner of this. Agriculture institute and how everyone is waiting for him. 40 years later, Kutta arrives and is now owner of ...

The Prodigy

Dekko TV often comes up with LGBTQ+ content. I cannot remember anything being good though. Films/series always have low production value are quite underwhelming. Add one more show to that list now. This horror/slasher genre show is so embarrassingly bad that Ince it is finished, you are like what did I just watch! It makes absolutely no sense. Thank god! This was just 6 episodes of 12-25 min duration. I think it was also released as a film maybe and thats why the uneven pacing of the episodic timings.  Adam, a street hustler who has just about given up on life. At the start of the film, he’s picked up by a mysterious trick whose seemingly sinister intentions go largely unnoticed. Adam can’t even muster up the energy to care about his own fate. He accompanies this man to his isolated home in the desert and soon finds himself held captive – stuck at the mercy of a psychopath whose dark history prevents him from understanding the difference between reality and his own murderous fantas...

Loveless Society (Thai Mini-Series)

This was such a pointless series and a show that need not exist in the first place. With low production quality, the acting is non-existent, the plot is pedestrian, the whole thing is filmed on an iPhone, the editing is incompetent, the sound is poor, and there's no ending. It just... stops. The show thankfully is just 4 episodes of about 40 minutes each, so the torture doesn't stay long for you. Nut works at a small advertising agency. His colleagues and grinds are a girl So, a guy named Mick, who he has been friends with for 6 years. Mick has a secret crush on Nut. Nut's feelings for Mick are unclear to us. For a new competition, the Boss hires his relative/consultant to work with this team so they can potentially win the award which will be bog for the company. Apparently Guy had seen one of Nut's previous work called "Loveless Society" and was quite inspired by the creator and that is why he also wanted to work with Nut on this collaboration. Guy does come...

And That's YOU (Cambodia Mini-Series)

Being touted as Cambodia's first BL series after their previous effort 'The Law Of Love' failed to find a sponsor at the last minute. I appreciate the makers for doing their best to complete the show. The show which aired 2 episodes just before covid was finally finished in 2022 with the last 2 episodes. Honestly the last episode also felt very rushed. Overall with 4 episodes of around 20 minutes each, the story could have been decent, but overall this mini series is nothing much to talk about from any perspective. The only thing worth noting is that at least someone is trying to do something different in a country where creating a BL show is probably not the easiest thing to do. The story is extremely basic. There is a shy gay guy who just keeps to himself and is an introvert. In parallel we meths straight guy whose girlfriend has recently broken up with him but he doesn't want to give up that easy and keeps going back to her. Now this girl finds the gay guy very cute ...

Playboyy (Thai Series)

After all these years, finally there is a series where I eventually gave up. When you have a show of 14 episodes and each episode is over one hour long, you expect something out of it. Although with a name like this, I did keep my expectations minimum and trust me, I really tried to stay on. I understand the need for sex and explicit scenes and I am all up for it, but I thought that from the main story point of view of a missing person; something more substantial will be offered but sadly, this didn't happen. Looking at some of the other reviews, it feels like people have either loved it or hated it. I definitely fall in the latter category. There is a group of 5 students who are very close to each other. One of them Nant went missing a year ago and despite repeated attempts by police, he couldn't be found. One day his twin brother Nont comes back from US and joins these friends pretending to be Nant and starts living with them. He is seeking answers and makes up a story of his...

Rien de 9 - Season 3 (French Series) [Nothing New]

Sometimes some shows are so bad, that you cant stop watching them. The third and hopefully final season of this French amateurish show falls in that category. Things continue to happen haphazardly but it's ok since you probably already saw the first two seasons and your expectations are set accordingly. This season has 10 episodes averaging to about 7-8 minutes and a longer season finale. Season 2 had ended with Maykel proposing to Johaness, and this season is all about their wedding preparation. While they are busy with planning for wedding, they have another idea, what if they had a baby. Characters from previous two seasons keep re-entering the show. They ask one of their friends to be a surrogate and she agrees. Meanwhile another friend of theirs decides to become there wedding planner and helps them with all the arrangements and planning. The couple is excited and everyone is doing their thing, until in a shocking event the girl ends up losing the baby in the third month. Time...

Bodyshop (Mandarin/Cantonese/English/Spanish)

Gay film lovers are definitely familiar with the name Scud, a filmmaker who makes weird eccentric films and who's somehow still keeps getting money to make these films. IMO these are nicely packaged soft porn films, which are so not my type, but here I am again, watching his film and continuing to wonder, how do I find myself every time in this situation. I can just take solace in the fact that this film has been announced as a the final feature by Scud. Clips from previous works, mainly Adonis (2017), enter the story and blur the ever-so-fragile line between documentary and fiction, the actors and their roles. The premise of the film itself is odd. The ghost of a young soldier who gets raped multiple times in a single night by men whom he loved, bids farewell to his mother and travels the world to see his transgender sister. By possessing living bodies, he meddles with the romances of unfaithful lovers along the way in Taiwan, Japan, Spain and Thailand. He meets a soul mate amid t...

Art Of Love (Filipino Series)

Yet another disastrous Filipino gay series. At least this one came out during Covid times, when people were trying to offer content keep everyone entertained at home, so the series gets that benefit, but still there is no excuse for a paper thin story and an extremely shoddy execution. With 9 episodes lasting 12 ish minutes each, this is literally just a one liner story that had no need to built into a so called series. In the first 4 episodes, we see that a young boy who has a girlfriend and is a painter dreams about a man, can't figure out who he is, draws his painting and eventually comes face to face with the guy named Noah. Turns out this was all a fictional story being created by an artist named Sean, whose best friend is Noah and Sean has a crush on Noah and truly loves him, but is scared of telling Noah the truth. Just the imaginary story, he does have a girlfriend and a gay best friend. His gay best friend writes a fictional story about Sean's love for Noah nd posts it...

Pharm (Web Series)

I mean I knew this was a Signal23 TV's web series with black guys (popular for series like About Him shows etc); so I expected paper thin story, overacting or bad acting and a whole lot of sex. This show had it all. That doesn't mean that it makes it any better. It wad still as much of a trash as I expected. Also in certain places this show is knows as "First High" ; just in case someone finds it hard to find it. Latham’s high is blown when a pill pushing, pizza delivery guy, named Pax slips into his life. Instantly a lust-struck Pax is hooked on Latham - a handsome individual who indulges often in a mind altering affair with a medicine called ‘Pharm’. Latham’s delusional ex-lover Quentin and Pax’s desperate quest to settle his money problems adds unwanted conflict to their new bond that’s destined to become a formula for success - or disaster. I laughed so hard when I read that this from the director of the show "This series is similar to such shows as Breaking ...

Undying Love (Filipino Mini-Series)

Oh my god! Unbelievable. Just when you thought that cringe couldn't get any worse, here is this wannabe mini BL series, that I don't even know where to begin with to describe how bad and cringy it is. If you need to explain someone the meaning of cringe, then make then watch this show and they will understand it. Even though this mini series is only 6 episodes, each of less than 10 minutes duration; but trust me this will feel like the longest time. There are only two ways to salvage this: either you roll your eyes in disbelief that this is actually happening or just chuckle and laugh on how stupid everything is. I chose the latter with my morning cup of tea and I survived, albeit with a very bad taste in my mouth. Do not get fooled by this poster. Set in a resort (yes, once again like millions of other Filipino BL series), we see two friends Christian and his friend. Christian is waiting for "Love" of his life. Meanwhile clearly his friend is in love with him. Enter ...

Rien de 9 - Season 2 (French Series) [Nothing New]

Having somehow endured the first season of the show, I was dreading g the time, when I will somehow be forced (by myself) into watching this second season. Thankfully the expectations after first season were so low that this season two fits perfectly the bill. The story sort of continues but even if you haven't seen the first season, you will not miss any context. Maykel not has his own work business, which is not important in the context of larger story. Him and Johannes seem to have broken up, but it feels like they both still love each other but are afraid to do anything about it. Thanks to Johannes' friend; he thinks maybe if he makes Maykel jealous by pretending to be with someone else, Maykel will admit his love. Somewhere during this tine, on a drunken night, Maykel ends up sleeping with J's friend. When he and Johannes are back together as a couple, he don't tell him the truth. Enter a new girl, who happens to be Johannes' old friend form younger days, who i...

Looking For Langston (UK)

Looking for Langston is a lyrical exploration - and recreation - of the private world of poet, novelist and playwright Langston Hughes (1902 - 1967) and his fellow black artists from the Harlem Renaissance. I have to be honest that I have no idea who Mr. Langston is or the historical importance of the documentary, so here I went in with a very open mind hoping to learn something interesting and new. Shot in black and white by cinematographer Nina Kellgren, the film combines archival footage with newly staged set pieces, fantasy sequences, and an imagined love story. The film reclaims and celebrates Langston Hughes as an important black gay voice in American culture. Hughes’ homosexuality is the obsession here, with a Hughes-inspired figure (a man in a tuxedo who bears no physical resemblance to the poet) ogling hunky men who dance and play together in a 1930s nightclub setting. Occasionally, the tuxedo-clad man is walking on a beach, where he discovers a nude man; the two later retire ...

Chains Of Heart (Thai Series)

Clearly a show like KinnPorsche was an inspiration for this series, but sadly, this show is not even half as entertaining. It took me half-a-dozen episodes to understand where the makers were trying to go with the story, because the plot is all over the place. The series is so painfully predictable, that viewers would keep thinking maybe there are some clever twists saved for the last. There aren’t. It's simply a train wreck, that gets stretched beyond reason for on and on. With 10 episodes of each 40-45 minutes, this show gave me so much headache trying tp out things in perspective since it is just so all over the place. The show starts with a couple Din (a forest officer) and his lover Ken running from someone and being shot, fall off the cliff and presumed to be dead. Two years later, Ken is leading some secret mystery life and a mysterious stranger appears and starts to protect him. Somehow Ken feels connected to this person, but can't be sure. Then in all further episodes,...

Zero Patience (Canada)

Sometime back I had seen the documentary about Patient Zero, a flight attendant from Canada nd how the whole AIDS thing unfolded.. This film is a fantasy musical (maybe comedy?) which tackles such subjects as homophobia, AIDS, the life of Sir Richard Francis Burton, and the ignorance that still exists about how AIDS came, and spread, through North America-- all wrapped up in a boy meets boy story., with a twist hat Pteint zero comes back from dead to clear his name. The film starts with a historical figure Burton, who translate erotic books and is obsessed with doing scientific study of penis size. He works in some museum and there is something going on about him modifying his museum based on patient zero. In meantime patient zero returns as ghost and wants to clarify his name. But no one can see him, except this Burton guy. Burton os convinced that Zero is a killer of some sorts, and agrees to help. Then there is this sudden thing about monkeys in museum and them being blamed for AIDS...

My Bromance 2: 5 Years Later (Thai Series)

Bad and horrible aren't even the worst of words to describe how awful this series was. A sequel of a show (that wasn't great in the first place) that no one asked for. Its so bad. Its like someone in production made a list of things they should do in the show and then another list of things they shouldn't do and they accidentally used the shouldn't do list. What terrible waste of money, actors and most importantly viewers. The show has 9 episodes of 40 minutes each. Also I just realized while I was writing this is that this series is actually a sequel the movie of same name which had same actors and not to the series that I had seen. Honestly I don't even remember watching the film, but it turns out I did see it almost 8-9 years back. None of these factors, however, change the fact on how bad this show is. The show starts with us that when Bank and Golf's parents were against their relationship, somehow Golf faked his death and has been "dead" for 5 ye...

Memories Of Forgetting (Filipino)

What a train wreck of a film. I am all about experimenting, not just with story but also with film making style, but this film just doesn't work. As if the paper thin story wasn't enough, the various, inconsistent stylistic choices are distracting and annoying. Also, the dialogue  delivery is strange; it gives a feeling of theatre or bad poetry. I saw it as a film, but I believe this was aired as a 6 part series. The premise is very basic and simple. Jim, 30s, is a filmmaker who had a special relationship with Michael, 20s, an actor he worked with five years ago. In the midst of shooting a film, Michael quit from the project. While the city is in a lockdown, the two meet again. Their dynamics becomes volatile, fighting at some point and making love the next moment. During this time, Jim's mother becomes ill, and dies which somehow comes in between the relationship of these two men, halting their relationship once again. After sometime, at a wedding, Jim and Michael meet aga...

Rien de 9 - Season 1 (French Series) [Nothing New]

This show from back in early 2000's was such a drab to watch. I can guarantee you that some of the college film projects are probably more sophisticated, better directed and acted than this one. Also, the story of this show was all over the place. Apparently there were two more seasons of the show and I seriously hope I do not have to watch them. The first season had 11 episodes of about 8-9 minutes average. Maykel and Johannes, a gay couple, just broke-up and Maykel is now a mess and is also taking anti-depressants. Still in love with Johannes, he seeks help from his friend Margaret, an old lover from high school , whom he also dated for 2 years. It seems she still has feelings for Maykel too. Enter another girl from high school Esther, who apparently was friends with him and suddenly shows up unannounced and gets almost attached to hip of Maykel. And then one day Maykel meets another high school friend of his Greg. Esther decides that it's time to resort to drastic measures, ...
