I had no idea that vertical BL series are also being made in Ukraine (well at least this production is from Ukraine). I am not sure if this was actually shot there but at least the production company is from there. Plus there was clear accent that suggested the series being made somewhere in Europe. The series, like most BL vertical ones, is about friendship, love, duty and misunderstandings.
Jake is an orphan and from a poor family who manages to get a scholarship to go into this elite college. Except his close friend, no one likes him and in fact are always degrading him. The baron of the town, William is also part of it and because of this the two get entangles in a few rough situations. The principal puts them in same basketball team as a punishment. This is where William comes on strongly at Jake, who is not sure of this is part of William bullying him again or something else. He reminds William that he is not gay. Meanwhile William's fiancé Linda is not happy with this and keeps coming up with ideas to degrade James. When William's father finds out this, he makes it clear to his son that he will need to marry Linda and stop with these shenanigans. By now, even though James and William feel strongly about each other, William pretends to like Linda breaking Jake's heart. It is William's friend who tells Jake the truth and the two finally kiss and sleep together. But when the father finds out, he gets Jake expelled from the university. William has had enough and he stands up to the father that he will not be bullied and do everything for his love Jake. The father is actually happy to see that his son is finally standing up for himself and his beliefs and that is what he needs for the next king. He gives his blessings to the happy couple.
The story is straight forward and the duration of the entire show is less than an hour. Despite the cute enemy to friends to lovers trop; this show has so many loopholes. William clearly did not like Jake in the beginning. He was part of group that bullied him. So it's strange that suddenly he starts to flirt with Jake out of nowhere and starts to get feelings for him. Jake's reciprocated feelings are well understood and it grows overtime, but the start is a bit wonky. Besides that, we have the regular trope of a jealous girlfriend/fiancé, threat of forced marriage, family tension etc. I think the shows like these are only working because of the vertical format and short clips, but at some point I feel like these kind of series will need to offer more to the viewers. Otherwise I doubt how will production companies like these sustain financially. The two lead actors are good to look at and have good chemistry. Both do their part well. I am guessing the title comes from the fact when William finally stands up to his father and refuses to bow down to his wishes and commands. (5/10)
