My Bias Is Showing?! (Korean Series)

This Korean series is a light hearted and heartfelt story that manages to be both charming and surprisingly relatable. At its core it's about high school teacher meeting his celebrity crush and what happens after, but there is more to the story. The show is 10 episodes of average 25 minutes each.

Aejoon is a high school teacher woking on contract. He has been a huge fan of singer Siyeol ever since his music help him uplift from the life's lows. He associates it with motivation and positivity and has now his posters filling his room. But he hides this fanboy side of I'm from colleagues, students for fear of being ridiculed. One day, Aejoon is shocked when Siyeol shows up at his school. Siyeol is filming a new reality show called Go! School Teacher, where he pretends to work on campus. Production teacher wants a real teacher to guide Siyeol and to everyone's surprise Siyeol picks Aejoon. Aejoon feels flustered at the thought of working so closely with his favourite idol. He nervously accepts the opportunity. Aejoon tells about this to his roommate who happens to be the manager of this pop group. Siyeol continues to flirt with Aejoon while shooting for this project constantly and tries to won him over which everyone finds surprising. Turns out few years back the pop group had another singer Jooha, who quit to pursue acting. But while he was part of the group, Siyeol kinda liked Jooha, but Jooha and the manager were in a relationship but the manager broke their relationship. When Siyeol sees the manager with Aejoon, he assumes that he is managers new boyfriend so he decides to win over him just to break his heart so that manager would learn his lesson. While Aejoon is enjoying all attention and love, truth eventually comes out and heart hangs follow. He cannot believe that his idol would deceive him in such a manner. But as you would expect, at some point Siyeol started to have real feelings for Aejoon. The last few episodes focus on the idol trying to win over his love Aejoon. Meanwhile Jooha and the manager also talk is out about everything that happened in the past and reconnect again as lovers.

This story juggles romance, comedy, and just enough angst to keep things interesting. Aejoon's fanboying is sweet, never exaggerated, and it makes Siyeol s growing attention toward him all the more touching, even if he’s seeking him out for revenge. Add in a former idol and Ae Joon’s cousin and roommate, whose own complicated history brings another layer of tension. There is a lot going on. Even with its emotional moments, the show doesn't lose its charm and thankfully also never becomes overdramatic. It was interesting to take an idea where Aejoon and Siyeol are hiding their true feelings/intentions for each other but also secretly like one another. In a way they are both deceivers. While the twist (Siyeol's real motive) is fun, I think his plan sounds ridiculous. It's a dumb idea that can easily backfire on him. What the hell is he thinking!? On the other hand, we do not get much details on the fallout of the secondary couple. A little more details would have helped there, Having said that, by now we know that there is always a main couple and a secondary couple who never gets all the attention, so it's ok. The chemistry between the actors is decent but it's Aejoon's whose infectious energy and smile that stand out. Everyone else is alright. Overall the show is light and fluffy, like most of these kinds that give you a warm fuzz inside and then you may forget it in a few weeks. But thankfully the misunderstanding dont drag on forever and are resolved, with the confessions coming in with warmth. It’s one of those dramas that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that made it easy to follow and entertaining. Not perfect, but definitely worth checking out if you want something simple and sweet. (6.5/10)

Drug Shore (Chinese)

Apparently tis film was adapted by a true story Well, true or not, movies/series about drugs are not easy to watch. I have always said that drugs is like the end of life for anyone. For those who sink into this sea of addiction, some manage to swim upstream to recovery, while others cannot make it to the shore. The film may not be the best, but it does have a noble intention to remind everyone of the evil affects of drugs and combining that with sex. Ah Zhe is in a happy relationship with his influencer boyfriend. On his partner's birthday, they end up going to a party, which interestingly is being hosted at a drug dealer's house and this is where for the first time he is exposed to the world of drugs. The dealer has a soft corner for Ah Zhe, but before anyone realizes, Ah Zhe's life spirals out of control when slowly he starts doing more and more drugs, ...

The Shortest Distance is Round 3: Fallen Flowers

Continuing with the weird trilogy of "The Shortest Distance", I am so glad that finally I am done with part 3 and won't have to deal with this again in future. Thankfully, as of now the makers have not announced any further parts; which will save all of us on this earth from the embarrassment of watching this in near future. After the first 10 minutes are used in sort of recapping bits of first two parts, the story moves forward. Haruto is now starting to have feelings for Ruka, the mysterious pole dancer from second part. In a fit of rage, Ruka ends up killing the goat man and to save him and Haruto, Shibahara asks them to go underground. Meanwhile Shibahara continues the search for Seiya (the guy who had cut off Haruto's penis). It turns out Seiya is now also taking care of the original club owner from part 1. Both of them were released after they had informed Shibahara of Aoyama's secret location. Shibahara tortures Seiya's boyfriend leading to Seiya killin...
