Zecji Nasip (Croatian) Sandbag Dam

This indie film is a really powerful look at how a community can suffocate you and the hidden corners young people have to find just to be themselves in so many European towns, even with all the progress we've seen lately. The whole story plays out while the town is bracing for a massive, raging flood, and you just can't shake the feeling that some kind of intense reckoning or unavoidable doom is headed their way. To be honest, I didn't go in with super high expectations, but the way it’s put together makes it a seriously compelling watch. Plus, it’s not every day you get to see an LGBT-themed movie coming out of Croatia! The story follows Marko, a popular 18-year-old kid who seems to have it all—he’s got a girlfriend, he’s a competitive arm wrestler, and he’s well-liked at school. When he isn't in class, he’s usually hanging out with his brother, who has a disability, or helping his mom out in her greenhouse. Everything gets flipped upside down when a guy named Slaven ...

The Effect (Thai Series)

The way this series started, I thought 'The Effect 'was your typical BL story until the shocking twist derailed all my expectations. The show gets uncomfortable to watch but it does address a very important issue and trait that was so far being almost taken for granted. I appreciate the fact that makers kept the screenplay tight with only 3 episodes of about 50-60 minutes each. It knows what it wants to say, what it wants to present and doesn't waste much time in unnecessary side stories.

Shin is a shy introvert guy who has just joined university. Initially forced to study together, soon the trio of him, Bright and Pramote become real close friends. Shin considers his college senior Keng to be his Ido since he is popular, studious and also school’s ambassador for their marketing campaigns. One day running out looking for tie to be able to sit in exam, the duo run into each other and an unlikely friendship strikes. We see that Keng had noticed Shin on day 1 and had taken an instant liking to him. Keng takes a strong interest in the young university student, mentoring him with class assignments. He also introduces him to his friends. Among them is Man, a suspicious student who immediately dislikes Shin upon meeting him. It turns out Man has a massive crush on Keng, but was rejected by his friend after a failed love confession. Man takes secret pics of the duo together and soon rumors start about the two which bother Shin. When he tries to discuss this with Keng, he confesses his love for Shin but Shin says he is not gay and politely refuses. This doesn't go down well with Keng and assails Shin physically and sexually. This leads to Shin losing his complete confidence. The last episode is about Shin's friends trying their best to being Shin back to normal, Keng uses multiple opportunities to apologize and thankfully gets snubbedd every time from Shin and his family because this wrong can never be undone.

The main character in The Effect gets raped by the man who is perceived to be his love interest. You will be disturbed watching his helpless body literally dragged across the floor, as he fails to escape his assailant’s violent wrath. He is beaten, bruised, and brutalized by his rapist, who performs this senseless act while justifying it as “love”. Stories about  rape, sexual assault, and abusive trauma are extremely important and I think this show does a decent enough job of addressing it. I was quite worried that like most shows, Shin may forgive Keng, but I was happy to see he stayed put on his opinion and refuses to entertain him, just because Keng feels sorry and thinks he is in love. Keng has anger issues which we are given a hint of when he picks up a fight with his friend Man, but I didn't expect the show to go in a direction that it did. I do understand that some people have taken offense to the portrayal of gay guys (manipulative Man or Rapist Keng), but I am ready to discount that in this case. I was more focussed on taking away more powerful interpretations from the narrative. The ending is a bit off and weird. Remember this is not a cute typical BL show that has a happy ending like we expect. Instead its dark, raw, heavy and maybe make you feel sick; but important. (6.5/10)

It's short and still packed a punch. Like you I thought it was one of those typical BL drama after the first episode... Haha boy was I wrong. I was also afraid Shin would forgive Keng but thank God it didn't (wouldn't be the first time a BL would romantize totally wrong behaviour...). I just think the acting was a bit subpar at times. And tha last scene was unnecessary.
Speaking of which, I happended to watch this one right between Utsukushi Kare and Secret crush on you, both having a shy guy falling for the beautiful cold guy in school. So I did have my typical unappropriate BL reactions after all lol ^^;

Actually even I was worried that the guy might forgive him(based on my prior BL experience) but thank god that did not happen.
Some of these typical BL tropes really need to change and writers need to bring in a fresh perspective .

Sei no Gekiyaku (Japanese) [Dangerous Drugs of Sex]

Every person has their own unique way of dealing with loss. This film is as much a psychological thriller as it is a soft porn BDSM portrayal of two young men that makes the film overall horrifying as well as humane. It is really hard to describe the genre of this film in one word. Its important not that the film has some really disturbing scenes so if you go into seeing this film, please proceed with caution. Although any sexual non-consensual activity is not ok, this film has its won strange way of showing that suicide is not the only solution to all life's problems. Makoto is a regular office goer, who just finds out that his girlfriend is probably cheating on him. ON top of it, his parents sudden death coming back from a trip that he forced them to take, he gets completely dejected and decides to commit suicide. Unknown to him, he is saved by mysterious man Yoda Ryoji, and he wakes up finding himself tied up in leather and belts in a very BDSM setting. This mysterious saver soo...

Drug Shore (Chinese)

Apparently tis film was adapted by a true story Well, true or not, movies/series about drugs are not easy to watch. I have always said that drugs is like the end of life for anyone. For those who sink into this sea of addiction, some manage to swim upstream to recovery, while others cannot make it to the shore. The film may not be the best, but it does have a noble intention to remind everyone of the evil affects of drugs and combining that with sex. Ah Zhe is in a happy relationship with his influencer boyfriend. On his partner's birthday, they end up going to a party, which interestingly is being hosted at a drug dealer's house and this is where for the first time he is exposed to the world of drugs. The duo somehow do it just enough and come back home but next day Ah She gets invited by the dealer Xiao Fei for a meal. The dealer has a soft corner for Ah Zhe, but before anyone realizes, Ah Zhe's life spirals out of control when slowly he starts doing more and more drugs, ...

The Shortest Distance is Round 3: Fallen Flowers

Continuing with the weird trilogy of "The Shortest Distance", I am so glad that finally I am done with part 3 and won't have to deal with this again in future. Thankfully, as of now the makers have not announced any further parts; which will save all of us on this earth from the embarrassment of watching this in near future. After the first 10 minutes are used in sort of recapping bits of first two parts, the story moves forward. Haruto is now starting to have feelings for Ruka, the mysterious pole dancer from second part. In a fit of rage, Ruka ends up killing the goat man and to save him and Haruto, Shibahara asks them to go underground. Meanwhile Shibahara continues the search for Seiya (the guy who had cut off Haruto's penis). It turns out Seiya is now also taking care of the original club owner from part 1. Both of them were released after they had informed Shibahara of Aoyama's secret location. Shibahara tortures Seiya's boyfriend leading to Seiya killin...
