“I’ll never stop loving you”—can anyone keep this promise? A romantic love story of two young boys, when the two meet by chance, their instant chemistry ignites a passionate affair that challenges them both to confront their desires and aspirations. An interesting premise, but I felt a lot of context was missing in the film and let's talk about that a bit later.
Orlando is a dance student working part time as a go-go dancer in a popular gay bar, and Marco is a nursing student working part time in a hotel. They meet by chance on the street one day and they both have this instant crackling chemistry that they can't keep their hands off each other. Orlando is also applying to a reality dance completion in hopes to make it bug. Marco in the meantime, wants to be a good nurse as has been his dream. They duo start a passionate love story and before you know they move in, loving each other and supporting each other's career. But somewhere along the path, they start growing apart. We are never really old what was the point of contention, but there are a few scenes where Marco gets some infection and his doctor recommends HIV testing. This somehow freaks out Orlando. Even though the results come fine, a crack develops in the relationship, from Orlando's side. Marco cannot figure out what's going wrong, but soon they start to avoid each other. Marco waits at the club, asking his friends where Orlando is, but he is keeping his distance. Meanwhile, when he does not make it to the competition, he is further sad but this is also the time he feels the need to be close to Marco because he was the only one who understood him. Eventually the lovers reunite praising once again to each other that they will never stop loving.
If you look from a plot perspective, there is not much going on here. Boy meets boy, fall in love, fall out for some reason and get back together. What was frustrating her was that the director never makes it very clear what was the point of contention? Why is Orlando moving away? Was he scared of health scare, was he scared for falling so much in love with another person, was he worried about his own career, or is it something else? I can understand Marco keeping his distance eventually, because it is obvious Orlando is trying to avoid. It would have benefice to know a little bit more here. My guess is it was health scare wherein Orlando wants to be there for Marco but is scared for himself. He acts in self-destruction by indulging in a bisexualities threesome and then the guilt of having done keeps him away further. Also bot these guys end up hooking with the 'cameraman' who has shot Orlando's video. Was this supposed to be hint for something? I am not sure. Despite that, the film thankfully doesn't bore you. There may not be much happening, but the two good looking actors, the clubby scenes, sensual sex scenes, vibrant Mexico City keeps you engaged making you want to know what is going to happen and where is this love story leading. Thankfully there are no external demons or characters threatening to ruin their relationship, despite the fact that we see they had and continue to have fare hare of sexual escapades outside each other. There are some very well choreography sequences as well to appreciate. The two actors have hot bodies and are good to look at but somehow lack maturity. At many places they feel inexperienced to carry out sequences that they are expected to. I don't know when Marco gets back with Orlando in the end, is it true or is it still a dream? When Orlando tells us “Look at me. I’m no longer the same,” you can see the change on his face, but is it too late? I feel there is a lot more artistic element going on here than what my simple brain can absorb and understand. Looking at the previous films of this director and how much I did not like all three of them, at least I am making progress where I thought this was an above average film. (6/10)
