Marco Berger has come out with another movie that’s really beautiful and sexy, but it’s definitely not like the ones he usually makes where guys are just full of sexual tension. This one is filmed in black-and-white and looks amazing. The director found a really weird way to show how humans connect and how sexuality works by using a "man as a dog" idea. It’s a pretty strange but interesting movie that makes you think. The story takes place in a world that’s parallel to ours, where two straight couples are on vacation on an island. You see two guys on a boat calling out to someone, and then this naked, lonely, and really good-looking guy shows up. In this dreamy kind of world, the group calls him a "man," but he basically acts like a pet dog. In this setup, the word "men" refers to naked male humans that people own as pets, just like we own dogs. People are scared of stray men just like they're scared of stray dogs. There are also "women" who ...
This film was a very amateurish attempt at making a gay love story. The acting was average to bad, the scenes were unnecessarily long; in fact the story plot was paper thin and they still managed to stretch it to almost 2 hours of run time. It is full of plot holes and I am not even sure what really happened at the end. It suddenly got so confusing.
This is the story of two school boys who are aspiring musicians, meeting by fluke and falling in love along the way to a music competition. An He (Chinese name translates to “River”) is a musical genius who is experiencing writer’s block. Xiao Yu (translates to “Little Fish” in Chinese) is a rich kid who runs away from home and has joined the same school as An He. Both have their own challenges in school and in life. A school girl fancies An He but he constantly refuses him. Somehow Xiao You manages to start living with An He since his mother travels a lot for work. Their friendship starts growing, till one day Xiao You literally pushed himself onto An He physically (in the name of love) until he gives in and then suddenly we have a love story that starts. Together they start preparing for a music competition. The day before the competition, however, Xiao Yu goes missing, leaving An He in an embarrassing situation, not knowing how to deal with his disappearance.
According to the director, in order to depict this coming-of-age story much more clearly, he tried to prove the connection between love and dreams by making the protagonists experience the contradictory mentality of their characters, hoping that they will carry out the shyness of teenage romance. So the ending here is very confusing and nonsense. It either needed more time or less time for a sad ending The tall guy playing Xiao You is cute and handsome , but the main actor is strictly ok. The school girl has just one business, to stalk her love and constantly keep proposing despite being rejected all the time. For a film where characters are supposed to bond over music, even that is not memorable at all. This was a huge disappointed. I read that the film will remind you of 'Addicted' but it is far from that. If ou have two hours of your time to waste, then go for it, otherwise stay away. (3/10)
