David Searching is a wanna witty comedy about a frustrated gay documentary film maker and also her female room mate who are navigating through the highs and lows of the New York City of search of love and life. The film is actually just a snapshot in an individuals life, his highs and lows, ups and down in the city. Its not really a set story. The basic plot is very thin actually.

David, a young gay man and a wanna be documentary film maker is alone and looking for love. Its been a while since he has been with a guy. He gets hit on by plenty of men but somehow he is struggling to get into a hookup scene. He lives with his female roommate Gwen, who moved in with him after she separated from her husband. David keeps getting missed opportunities courtesy his agent but nothing materializes. One day a mystery man shows up at their apartment, who is apparently the guy who used to live there. Soon he and Gwen start dating. One night David sees a young man Michael at a club getting it on with another man. Somehow both men have this instant attraction and David finally gives in to his feelings. After some misunderstanding the two are finally together. IN between there is this whole thing of David being found by a standup female comedian who just gives him BS about how to make it big in the industry. I thought that whole section was all Meh!

The film actually should have been titled differently. This film is as much about Gwen as it is about David. They spent all their time together and go on many bad dates looking for 'Mr. Right'. The documentary David is trying to make is about everyday life, which doesn't excite many people. Gwen still has mixed feelings about her divorce, but thanks to the unexpected guest, she finds love and solace. There is a whole lot of walking and sitting and coffee and chats between these 2-3 main protagonists, trying to give this film a slight comic touch, but that adds little to the story. I felt that this low production film was trying to mould itself in a sitcom like pattern. More than the titular character of David, I found the supporting cast of Gwen, his boyfriend and even Michael in his limited role, much more charming and people who hold the film together. David's carefree attitude but constant complaints at the same time, do nothing much personally for me. I am a firm believer that if you are unhappy about something, do something about it rather than just complaining. David clearly doesn't follow that school of thought. Overall the film was ok. Nothing ground breaking , but hey it came in the 90s, when very few films were made and I am sure it did well when it came out. Some of the films do not age well because of multiple reasons and despite its good intentions, this film is one such. (4.5/10)

Apparently tis film was adapted by a true story Well, true or not, movies/series about drugs are not easy to watch. I have always said that drugs is like the end of life for anyone. For those who sink into this sea of addiction, some manage to swim upstream to recovery, while others cannot make it to the shore. The film may not be the best, but it does have a noble intention to remind everyone of the evil affects of drugs and combining that with sex. Ah Zhe is in a happy relationship with his influencer boyfriend. On his partner's birthday, they end up going to a party, which interestingly is being hosted at a drug dealer's house and this is where for the first time he is exposed to the world of drugs. The duo somehow do it just enough and come back home but next day Ah She gets invited by the dealer Xiao Fei for a meal. The dealer has a soft corner for Ah Zhe, but before anyone realizes, Ah Zhe's life spirals out of control when slowly he starts doing more and more drugs, ...

The Shortest Distance is Round 3: Fallen Flowers

Continuing with the weird trilogy of "The Shortest Distance", I am so glad that finally I am done with part 3 and won't have to deal with this again in future. Thankfully, as of now the makers have not announced any further parts; which will save all of us on this earth from the embarrassment of watching this in near future. After the first 10 minutes are used in sort of recapping bits of first two parts, the story moves forward. Haruto is now starting to have feelings for Ruka, the mysterious pole dancer from second part. In a fit of rage, Ruka ends up killing the goat man and to save him and Haruto, Shibahara asks them to go underground. Meanwhile Shibahara continues the search for Seiya (the guy who had cut off Haruto's penis). It turns out Seiya is now also taking care of the original club owner from part 1.
