To say that this sequel would be a major disappointment would be an understatement. This was a major disappointment because most of the story didn't made any sense. This sequel is one of the things that was not needed at all, especially when you are not even sure, what is it really that you wanna tell and show the audience.
Jim is now lonely and working in a cafe. He is on a social media detox. All the friends from before like Yana, that delivery boy, lo, Bogs etc are back and frequent cafe visitors. We are not told but Ben has been missing for 6 months and no one knows what happened. Jim is still sad and can't move on from Ben not knowing what happened. The cafe owner Val comes into picture and slowly starts to ignore some friendship and passion for life and himself in Jim. Meanwhile we see that Ben is living in some village along with another guy named Roy, ho has apparently been taking care of him. Ben knows Jim is out there sad but something happened between them. Towards. The end we are told that Jim's father gave an ultimatum to Ben to stay away from his son's life and Ben thought that is he is away from Jim, Jim won't have to give up on life. The ending is all messed up. In between the story, we are also shown stories of Flo and her love story with another younger cafe boy, love story between Bogs and Francis (a trans female) and then that delivery boy from original story and Jim's girlfriend Yana, who are going through a list of activities to get over ben and find themselves in a sexual orgy, leading to a complicated relationship with each other.
This story and treatment and direction of this show is an absolute train wreck. I mean, nothing, absolutely nothing here makes sense. I understand the reason Ben wants to go away from Jim's life but why suddenly disappear from everyone else's radar. The way his current lover Roy treats him is more Ethan he is his captivator rather than lover. Its life Ben is always scared and a bunny in front of him. Despite so many opportunities why won't anyone let Ben andJim talk through everything and sort it out rather than pretending that all is well. Even the ending where Ben is like I will love you but I can't be with you with baggage just doesn't make sense. All the other 3-4 pairs love stories were thrown in just for the sake of it and truth be told, I really couldn't care for them at all. Jim was the only saving grace of the show. His acting was to the point and is absolutely gorgeous. You can feel his pain through his eyes.
But please, my question to writers. Why come up with something so sub-par and almost a bullshit story idea. The 8 episodes ordeal was stretched beyond belief. After quite a decent original series, this has got to be one of the worse sequels made of a pretty good original show. (3/10)
