Gay cops who stare at each other in a very sexy way is my new favorite genre. This was an entertainingly good detective movie with a gay undercurrent, neither of which are truly fleshed out but the potential was there. When the film started with a guy in cop uniform, I was like "this dude is so f***ing hot" and even when the film ended , I do stand by my thought. An interesting murder mystery of a wealthy gay man and how cops have to navigate through gay scene to find the culprit make the gist of this film. Ambiguity pervades the film in both a sexual sense, in the relationships between the main male actors and the plotline of the aftermath of the murder; and this might be a deterring factor for. Lot of movie watchers.
The film starts with a rich gay man's murder, who belongs to a very influential family. We see a handsome policeman Ganso waiting at the crime scene for detectives to show up. Enter Chavez, a handsome middle aged detective with a wife and kid who is asked by the judge to quickly finish investigating the case and close because the influential family wants to. Talking to neighbors, a guy named Kevin becomes suspect. The judge and Chavez's boss assign Ganso to work with Chavez on the case. They find a guy named Kevin in one of the prolific gay bars. The duo plan that Ganso should use his good looks to go undercover and get close to Kevin, which he does. But during this time, we do get hints that maybe the two cops have sort of attraction or sexual tension going between them. When Ganzo befriends Kevin, Chavez accuses him about his sexuality. Anyway, they arrest the suspect Kevin when Kevin and Ganso are supposed to have sex. Chávez goes to interrogate the incarcerated Kevin, who convinces Chávez to release him from prison temporarily. He is told that the influential family is using horses as mule to smuggle drugs. This leads to an altercation between the two cops, one not believing the other and Chavez accuses Ganso of withholding information. Kevin gets shot and the leaders are more than happy to close the case. Chavez comes up with the theory that the rich gay dead man opposed the family's drug business and that the family hired Ganso to kill him and also then added him to investigate with Chavez. When he confronts Ganso about this at his wedding, the duo finally give in to a passionate kiss and gains shoots Chavez.
This film primarily worked for me because of the unbelievable chemistry between Chavez and Ganso. I mean, the actor playing Ganso is disturbingly handsome and slippery, a great screen presence you cannot take your eyes off for a second. How did they even find the guy? And his chemistry with Chavez is off the charts. The way they both just stare at each other while driving and planning, you can feel that sexual tension. The film is set in 80s when apparently corruption was at its peak in Argentina. In retrospect, was it really a murder mystery? We should have knows that who was the killer based on how the film starts but I guess what was to be seen is how and why aspects! I am not sure but I wonder if Chavez was also secretly gay but had to keep up appearances of wife and kid because of the times in 80s. I wonder, how Wass he good friends with the popular gay club owner? Also how did suddenly he ha thee feelings for Ganso. The enigmatic Ganso is clearly the master of this film using both his deadly good looks and his acting to full use for both the investigation and as an actor for the film. Despite knowing where the film is headed, the sudden ending was still disappointing. The 80s ambient is very well recreated, not only through the music and the clothes, but also people's attitudes and mentality, and therefore it compliments the plot. If the gay sub plots and sexual tension were not a part of this film between two gorgeous actors, this film would have fallen flat. (6.5/10)
