When a series brings a smile on your face every time u see a protagonist smile or when you see a couple's romance blossoming with heartfelt exchanges, you know that something has been done right. This 13 episode Taiwanese series of 25 minutes each is one such show. The show balances love with practicality and some funny moments that keeps you wanting to watch the next episode almost immediately.
Zi Xiang is from a wealthy family an dis in Taiwan from US to complete a real estate deal. He is there with his assistant Jonathan, but Zi Xiang doesnt want it. He is not interested in family business but it seems he has no choice. But to things in Taiwan are different. This deal comes with risks and Zi Xiang is attacked a couple of times because of high they both have to now live in a safe house. Jonathan is irritated by his employer's behaviour and refuses to help with non-business matters. We also meet Shao Peng, a deaf and mute person who wants to be a caretaker but no one gives him a job because of his disability. The two boys end up meeting first when Shao Peng saves Zi's life and second when he delivers food. Shao Peng uses a translation device to express himself and communicate with others. In addition, Shao Peng is fluent in lip reading. Since Zi is now a little hurt, he offers care taker job to Shao Peng. Shao Peng is reluctant to accept the offer, finding Zi Xiang difficult to deal with. However, Zi Xiang promises to use his connections to secure him with long-term work. Shao Peng agrees, moves in with Zi Xiang, and officially becomes his caregiver. Zi is not easy to deal with, but slowly the two boys start to warm upto each other and get to know each other better. Zi even starts tolerant sign language and eventually confesses his love to Shao Peng, who is not sure about it, but eventually gives in and truly. Thier bond is unshakable. There ar Eminor hiccups from family and his cousins but together they will overcomes. We also have side stories of assistant Jonathan falling for a petty criminal and how they get along plus an extremely supportive family of Shao Peng along with best girlfriend form years who probably also is secretly in love with him.
The chemistry between the two leads is the highlight of the show. We have not seen many BLs that try an represent the differently abled community. Shao Peng is a positive and resilient character and his journey shows his strength and vulnerability and the actor played him perfectly. I like that he's backed by a strong support system, so his loved ones empower him to conquer accessibility challenges. Zi Xiang initially comes across as someone who enjoyed a privileged life while evading his responsibilities. But as we move forward , his carefree demeanour was just a show to hide his dissatisfaction with the life he is forced into. He slowly grows from self-centred to someone capable of empathy and love. As a couple the two together are magical, especially actor Zi's smile and mischievous eyes. You feel he is always upto something naughty which brought a smile to my face. There's always a playful sparkle in his eyes or devilish mischief in his grin. The way their love blossoms, given they both come from different worlds, their emotions connect them. Their romance is beautiful because these lovers invent an intimate language to convey affection for each other. Jonathan, though not the central character, is an equally important one and man was he hot. In those business suits with his glasses, he is sexy and sophisticated. He deserves a lead role soon. Other characters like Shao Peng's parents and his friend make for a lively family atmosphere. My one big complaint was towards the end with arrival of Zi's fiancé arriving or the shrewed cousin showing up. Some of those could have been avoided and the show kept as a pure love story. The shows biggest strength is cute lovely moments, their passion which also turns physical at many points, the heartwarming family interactions and an A+ lead cast. These two were just superb, making this series a very very enjoyable watch. They were able to convey the emotions the plot needed for us audience to connect with the characters, which made me enjoy it more. (8.5/10)
