Avsar (Hindi) [Opportunity]

This Hindi movie is a pretty straightforward slice-of-life story that tries to give a modern look at what it's like to be a single, professional gay man. It dives into how he understands who he is, the chances he missed out on, and the personal choices he’s made along the way. The director used three parallel timelines to tell the story, which honestly didn't make much sense to me. While the core idea was actually pretty interesting, I really feel like this would have worked way better as a short film considering the point it was trying to make. Still, it wasn't a bad watch. The plot centers on Rachit, a city professional, and his friend Shikhar as they hang out for an evening. Rachit is a polished, urban guy, while Shikhar has more of a "small-town" rustic vibe, and you can really see the contrast between them when they talk. As the night goes on, Rachit starts thinking back to some old memories from a long time ago. He remembers being an intern after college in ...

Since the Last Time We Met (Spanish)

A romantic love story-ish set between a gay man and his straight (or bi) friend who reconnect after many years foes the base of this film. Things are fine till love comes in the way and things start getting complicated. This Argentinian film features primarily just the two lead actors and tell a story that we have seen before but then deals with it form the perspective of both men and what it means to them and their fears and where does that eventually lead to. It may feel repetitive at some points but thankfully the film is not stretched in finishes in just about 80-85 minutes.

Single, handsome and gay, Victor, who is his late 30s by chance meets his friend David on the streets. It has been 15 years since they met and clearly they have some history. David tells him that he has just moved in the neighborhood with his wife and they decide to meet for a dink in the evening. This clandestine invite starts a new journey. It turns out that when they were in their 20s, they had a worried love affair, secretly seeing each other back then without telling their mutual group of friends. David, however, had suddenly broken off the affair and blocked all contact with Victor without giving him any reasons. Victor had been heartbroken but unable to share his grief with anyone as their relationship had been secret. They talk about this a few times and against his better judgement Victor is ok to have David back in his life as an affair. David wants to keep his marriage while also having this parallel life. Victor knows he will not get anything more but his old love for David is so strong that he cannot see beyond anything and despite multiple conversations , including David talking about the guilt f hurting him all these years, continue for almost over a year. Things change when David comes up with the news that he is going to be a father. This is when David finally decides that it's time to cut things off. He would rather be alone than in a bad or complicated relationship that will never lead to anything meaningful. He makes David understand why he needs to be now faithful to his wife and look out for his upcoming family.

I am not one to make a comment on the nature of this relationship. Of course, most folks will say that this is a toxic relationship and not a good idea to rekindle old romance. Victor is hurt by the past, and not happy with David’s current married status, but he clearly loves David. David has a simpler attitude and is happy to just have uncomplicated sex on the side of his marriage. But they do talk about things that have hurt them in the past and try to get over it. I can understand Victor's point of view. He has loved David with all his heart and when such a person show sup again in your life, especially at a time when you are single, you are bound to get tempted o see if another chance is given, where will this lead to. So clearly Victor is in this, because part of him probably has a hope that he will get all of David at some point, but the final twist gives him a reality check and he takes the hard decision to move on. Things for David, even though may seem simpler, it's not. He has a family and loves his wife etc, but he also loves the one and only man he has ever loved and trying to balance his bisexuality and love between two people was never gonna be easy. But you don't think this when you are in love. And I get that. As much as this is not a situation anyone would wanna be in, sometimes life happens. And this is what is shown in the film.

The two actors do a decent job, although I do wish David performed with slightly more sincerity. If he truly was living with guilt for suddenly disappearing from Victor's life; it didn't come across very well. Actor playing Victor was much more sincere and someone you could connect to easily. The two men looked amazing together and did have good chemistry. Overall a decent attempt, despite it getting repetitive and very talky at times because you wanna shake these men and ask them to grow u and take a decision. (6/10)

Drug Shore (Chinese)

Apparently tis film was adapted by a true story Well, true or not, movies/series about drugs are not easy to watch. I have always said that drugs is like the end of life for anyone. For those who sink into this sea of addiction, some manage to swim upstream to recovery, while others cannot make it to the shore. The film may not be the best, but it does have a noble intention to remind everyone of the evil affects of drugs and combining that with sex. Ah Zhe is in a happy relationship with his influencer boyfriend. On his partner's birthday, they end up going to a party, which interestingly is being hosted at a drug dealer's house and this is where for the first time he is exposed to the world of drugs. The duo somehow do it just enough and come back home but next day Ah She gets invited by the dealer Xiao Fei for a meal. The dealer has a soft corner for Ah Zhe, but before anyone realizes, Ah Zhe's life spirals out of control when slowly he starts doing more and more drugs, ...

Sei no Gekiyaku (Japanese) [Dangerous Drugs of Sex]

Every person has their own unique way of dealing with loss. This film is as much a psychological thriller as it is a soft porn BDSM portrayal of two young men that makes the film overall horrifying as well as humane. It is really hard to describe the genre of this film in one word. Its important not that the film has some really disturbing scenes so if you go into seeing this film, please proceed with caution. Although any sexual non-consensual activity is not ok, this film has its won strange way of showing that suicide is not the only solution to all life's problems. Makoto is a regular office goer, who just finds out that his girlfriend is probably cheating on him. ON top of it, his parents sudden death coming back from a trip that he forced them to take, he gets completely dejected and decides to commit suicide. Unknown to him, he is saved by mysterious man Yoda Ryoji, and he wakes up finding himself tied up in leather and belts in a very BDSM setting. This mysterious saver soo...

The Shortest Distance is Round 3: Fallen Flowers

Continuing with the weird trilogy of "The Shortest Distance", I am so glad that finally I am done with part 3 and won't have to deal with this again in future. Thankfully, as of now the makers have not announced any further parts; which will save all of us on this earth from the embarrassment of watching this in near future. After the first 10 minutes are used in sort of recapping bits of first two parts, the story moves forward. Haruto is now starting to have feelings for Ruka, the mysterious pole dancer from second part. In a fit of rage, Ruka ends up killing the goat man and to save him and Haruto, Shibahara asks them to go underground. Meanwhile Shibahara continues the search for Seiya (the guy who had cut off Haruto's penis). It turns out Seiya is now also taking care of the original club owner from part 1. Both of them were released after they had informed Shibahara of Aoyama's secret location. Shibahara tortures Seiya's boyfriend leading to Seiya killin...
