Single All The Way

It's that time of the year, where I am hoping just like last year we get some good gay holiday romantic films. So when Netflix released their first gay holiday film, I was really looking forward to it. Its one of those films that works in the larger context of holiday goodness and romantic fluff which is all acceptable during this time and in fact is endearing to watch. Its funny and delightful, even if I may have some reservations around the subject as a whole.

Peter works as an agent for hot models but his real passion is plants. He has recently broken with a guy who Peter was looking to actually meet his parents for Christmas. His best friend and room mate of 9 years is Nick, a task rabbit tanker who also has written a children's book. Peter comes up with idea to take Nick as his boyfriend to his parents, since anyway his entire family always wonder why these two best friends are not together. And Peter desperately wants his family off his back. Flying into snowy New Hampshire, we meet the entire family with parents, aunt, sisters, nephews and nieces and of course everyone already knows Nick. But before the secret could be told, Peter's mother informs him that she has set him up with a hot gym instructor, with whom reluctantly and on Nick's insistence Peter decides to go on a date. Except Peter's mother, everyone else in the family is hellbent on getting Nick and Peter together. In separate instances it turns out that even though they have been best of friends forever, they both actually are in love with each other but have been afraid to share that fearing ruining th e beautiful friendship they have. Eventually, because of excessive meddling, the boy boys are able to see through it and confess their love and kiss.

An eccentric and loving family Christmas, filled with heartwarming romance is what this film is all about. With strong resemblances to 'A Family Stone', my favorite film, the film and its characters hold you in right from the beginning. The movie is about love and not about being gay. Yes, I have serious concerns about how and why would two best friends suddenly start feeling for each other over a holiday after all these years during which Peter has had multiple relationships and I am guessing its the same with Nick. Is it just the holiday or something else? Yes, the film does talk about this that gay men can be best friends and they don't necessarily have to be together, but when you are friends with someone for 9 years, its just highly unlikely that one fine day, romantic feelings will start to overwhelm you. Peter lots into his character like a T, with his character being charismatic, funny and cool. But its Nick in his debut feature film that pacs a surprise. My god! Is he handsome or what. Charming, sexy , gorgeous smile, this. Guy would be all over movies very soon. Every other character in the film stands out and most memorable being Schitt's Creek Jocelyn. I personally couldn't care much about the the aunt putting up the Christmas show, but I love her as an actress. So it was good. Nick's chemistry with the two nephews and his reading them books were some of my favorite scenes.

You have to not take this film seriously buttery and watch this with holiday spirit and try to nougat bogged down by my own questions. Its a typical Hallmark style holiday romantic gay film, which is actually a lot of fun to watch and something that brings a smile. With a palpating chemistry between its two leads, its all about love. There isn’t great strife regarding Peter’s sexual orientation; the film is instead filled with love, respect, and queer joy. It never gets too mushy or over the top and stays sincere and warm.  Overall a joyful and cheerful film that brings a much needed smile to single folks like me and makes you ant t o have a boyfriend and a crazy family around you. Life doesn't have to be so complicated. (7/10)

I really wanted to love it as much as last years Christmas comedies but something failed in this one. Maybe a little too much forced romance/happiness (and that's a BL fan talking lol). Still good for a happy mood, laying by the fireplace with chocolate lol. And it's worth watching just for the sake of Nick's smile (OMG that smile!!!)
I've got to watch "a family stone now" :)

You have echoed exactly my sentiments.
Family Stone is not a gay film at all, and I saw it many mons ago when it had just come out. Something about that film connected and stayed with me. Hopefully you will like it too

The Shortest Distance is Round 3: Fallen Flowers

Continuing with the weird trilogy of "The Shortest Distance", I am so glad that finally I am done with part 3 and won't have to deal with this again in future. Thankfully, as of now the makers have not announced any further parts; which will save all of us on this earth from the embarrassment of watching this in near future. After the first 10 minutes are used in sort of recapping bits of first two parts, the story moves forward. Haruto is now starting to have feelings for Ruka, the mysterious pole dancer from second part. In a fit of rage, Ruka ends up killing the goat man and to save him and Haruto, Shibahara asks them to go underground. Meanwhile Shibahara continues the search for Seiya (the guy who had cut off Haruto's penis). It turns out Seiya is now also taking care of the original club owner from part 1. Both of them were released after they had informed Shibahara of Aoyama's secret location. Shibahara tortures Seiya's boyfriend leading to Seiya killin...

Sei no Gekiyaku (Japanese) [Dangerous Drugs of Sex]

Every person has their own unique way of dealing with loss. This film is as much a psychological thriller as it is a soft porn BDSM portrayal of two young men that makes the film overall horrifying as well as humane. It is really hard to describe the genre of this film in one word. Its important not that the film has some really disturbing scenes so if you go into seeing this film, please proceed with caution. Although any sexual non-consensual activity is not ok, this film has its won strange way of showing that suicide is not the only solution to all life's problems. Makoto is a regular office goer, who just finds out that his girlfriend is probably cheating on him. ON top of it, his parents sudden death coming back from a trip that he forced them to take, he gets completely dejected and decides to commit suicide. Unknown to him, he is saved by mysterious man Yoda Ryoji, and he wakes up finding himself tied up in leather and belts in a very BDSM setting. This mysterious saver soo...

One Summer Night (Korean)

I really wanted to like this film but for non native speakers, these movie leaves a lot to be understood and the way scenes were unfolding in front of me, I wasn't sure many times what was really going on. The story had potential button getting any back story on any of the characters limited my ability to empathize with any of these actors. Film starts with two North Korea military guys Yong Joon and Jae Sung having sex and they are caught red handed and they run. Three years later we see Yong Joon in Seoul leading a very mundane and poor life. He has a boyfriend Tae-Kyu, who is a weird guy. He is carefree, doesn't do any work and is completely emotional and financially dependent on Young Joon. In fact, even Yong Joon will go to any lengths to protect him , fend for him and taking care of him to the extent of even taking up prostitution. Suddenly one day Jae Sung appears in their life again. His motivation is not clear but it is obvious he wants Yong Joon back in his life, who ...
